Looks like it might finally happen! Congress is going to block the Hip Forums (and probably Hippy.com as well - an excellent educational resource) from Schools and Libraries across America. The legislation is aimed at sites like MySpace.com, but it will probably affect us as well. Sorry Kids, no more Free Speech for you at school or in Libraries. They don't want kids hearing anything but the lies the gov't brainwashes into them or the ignorance of their own peers. Do I hear the bleating of Sheep across America? Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Of course EVERYONE COULD write their congressman and tell them how they feel about this censorship of a FREE SPEECH site, before it happens. Cause if you wait it will be TOO LATE.
Oh man! this sucks. It's just one more prove, what a fashist government the united states has. If I can do anything as a foreigner, let me know.
i think its already blocked except for the gallaries cause i go to night school and get online. hippy.com aint blocked but the hipforums are.
when i went to school and had computer lab it was for researching and such, not to be able to communicate with others. as a matter of fact i was super glad when my last job blocked the internet from us.....cause i am an addict to this site and kept coming back throughout the day. but i feel its a school and library's right to choose whether they are blocked or not.
i was wondering about the library as well. the school makes absolute perfect sense to me but again i feel it should be up to the individual school or school district, not congress.
I don't. They are supposed to disseminate information. Not choose what information is to be read and participated in. If you are "Addicted" to a website, that doesn't validate it being blocked. That is a personal problem. There are plenty of people who DO want to access the site, and someone's illness or perception of illness shouldn't effect that access. If I go online when I am supposed to be working, that is MY problem. Not Hip Forum's, not the goverment's, not the library's the school's or my IPS's.
the only way i could access the forums in the visalea library was to go through my email anyway, i think all forums where blocked
i was just using the word as a simple phrase. no need to get angry with me over it. i was simply stating that children dont always make the wisest chooses as to time usage. and believe me i got all my work done as a matter of fact, they email me now, 3 states away asking how my life is, and just today i got an email from my supervisor...... he said it was about myspace originally....which is just a chatting of sorts. that seems to be what the situation is over....you dont have to get angry with me. i said i dont feel they have a right to choose for schools or libraries. the school or library does, and why shouldnt they, you are using their equipment. i dont like censorship at all, thats why i am here at this site and i dont like rules of any sort. when you are at school though you arent supposed to be participating in sites....i'm thinking that is the angle they are coming from. just because you can understand an angle...doesnt mean that you agree with it.
Hopefully I don't get in trouble for posting this link, but there is a site that has been in use for some time to get around these sorts of blocks. http://www.hidemyass.com as well as http://www.spysurfing.com By going through these sites the computer your on only knows that you are accessing said sites. Those sites then access the site you want to view as proxy. Just a bit of information for people who mainly use school and library computers to access forums.
http://www.publicproxyservers.com/ find a proxy server in another country this shit can also happen to US?
This is really shitty. Libraries? Christ sake. Oh, and: I think Last Stand meant "don't come to a crappy country" more than "stay away from my country"...
what the hell, congress shouldn't be able to make a law telling schools and libraries that they have to block certain websites. do you have a link to this article by the way?
not that this is necessarily my opinion, just throwing it into the air maybe kids shouldnt be posting on internet forums whilst they're in school, perhaps they should be doing some schoolwork...
