I've been having a lot of braxton hicks contractions since the beginning of this week. This morning i was standing in the bathroom, in my bath robe, brushing my teeth, and I felt a trickle down the side of my leg. It was such a small amount I didn't really think much of it as I was half asleep. Now that I think more about it i am worried it may have been my water breaking? I've read in all the books that it could be a trickle or a gush... but there hasnt been anything else since and it was such a small amount..it really was just a trickle. I havent been having regular contractions or any other signs of labor either. *confused*
If it were your water, you'd feel another trickle, and another trickle, and then another trickle. It might have been your baby kicking your bladder, and something coming out. Best way to tell, smell your panties. If they smell sweet, it's probably amniotic fluid, and time to call your midwife.
I had something similar happen when I was pregnant with my twins. I was bending down to tie my oldest son's shoes and I felt this trickle. I was terrified it was my water, like a slow leak maybe, but it had absolutely no scent or color to it whatsoever. I called my OB just to be on the safe side, and he had me go to L&D at the hospital because he wasn't in the office. Which, let me tell you, was a pain in the butt. Anyway, they checked me, found both bags of water in tact, no leaks, and a tight cervix. They tested the fluid that had escaped and it registered as, yep, urine. I had been keeping so well hydrated that that was the reason it was clear and odorless. Anyway, I was a little embarassed, but very happy that it was nothing more than a little urinary incontinence due to my super sensitive bladder that I've always seemed to have, made even worse by pregnancy! If I were you, I'd put a call into your OB or midwife. Just to be cautious.
My doc just told me yesterday that water breaking would be either a gush or a constant trickle, but not just a one-time leak. She did say that when in doubt, call them, but as long as you aren't having a fairly constant trickle then I doubt your water broke.
thanks guys - turns out it wasn't my water breaking, probably was just the baby kicking my bladder or something. Just had a momentary freak out... i'm so excited to be so close to the end I was almost hoping labor would come soon. ah well... i still have a few weeks to go.
the morning i went into labour with dd2 i was standing in my bedroom (contractions 2 minutes apart) and had a big gush that i was positive was my water. i told my midwife this when we met up at the hospital but when she checked me she told me that my water was still in tact sooooooooooooo i spose i just peed myself which made me giggle a bit
