In CA, it's legal to have and smoke and grow weed if you have a Dr.'s recommendation.
How many plants and "dried prepared (manicured)" pot you can possess varies from county to county, which is stupid. In Humboldt the amt of plants per person allowed is up to 99 (your garden can be a maximum of 10' x 10'), but in neighboring Trinity County the limit is 12 plants per person.
Completeing the 3rd county in The Triangle, in Medocino you can have up to 25 plants per person, no Dr's note needed.
