Communism is an economic system and therefor no better than capitalism in my opinion. Only a system that is based on communication and egalitarianism rather than currency and power can make all people free and equal. Money=Power=Inequality idealist@earthling.com
Ironicly though, your username is the same name of the man who severly criticied the communist system after he actually seen it in action.
I was a communist a while back. There are things you have to realize. All political systems are flawed. Communism seems perfect when you read the communist manifesto, but the way stalin used it, he did for himself. There is large poverty in a communist country, even though there has never been a "true" communist nation yet. People have no insentive to work in a communist country, so they are forced into labor,(what stalin did). It is just motivation to work, but then it turns into slavery and torture, the exact oppisite of what Marx visioned. Capitalisim is flawed too. War means more money goes into military so we suffer, and since war is constant, we are always loosing money. But it does not happen as quickly as communism, that's why America has lasted so long. We are so lucky to live in America, even though it's a capitalist and corrupt system.
A communism would be an ideal government to promote happiness throughout the world...though that is only in theory. In reality, communism yields a corrupt government just as capitalism does...
That's very doubtful. You can go on and on about how there hasn't been "real communist country" (that's a separate debate), but when people have no incentive to work the economy ends up in the toilet. Even for the poor, capitalism is a much better system than communism. In the 1960's, the Soviet government showed their citizens American documentaries about life in American ghettoes with the intention of showing their citizens how good they had it compared to the evil Americans. The films had the opposite effect - Russians realized that even impoverished Americans led better lives than them.
I don't see any way that a society could NOT have an economy. Why should I do any work if I won't be rewarded in some way? What if I want to own something for myself without sharing it with everyone else? Personally, I'd rather not having every person in the world sharing ownership of my toothbrush.
Yea, you don't need anyone to produce food, you don't need doctors, you don't... wait, yes, you do. For there to be occupations there must be an economy.
you don't need someone else to make your food or tell you how to take care of yourself. occupations are not a neccesity.
Ah, now I see. Communism is a great system, as long as everyone in the world is willing to abandon civilization and live a hunter/gatherer life. Yeah, that'll happen.
Work isn't a necessity? Then where are you going to get your food? Does Santa Claus bring you a year's supply every Christmas?
this is just a new way of saying what has already been said. i would venture to say that all communist goverments turned into dictatorschips in a relatively short period of time. why i have no idea but i think some people have really touch on some clues regarding human nature and selfishness.
How is a hunter/gatherer life superior to a materialistic life in any way whatsoever? Unless I'm mistaken, our prehistoric ancestors had a life expectancy of around 20 years, and life was nasty, brutish, and short. The fact that anyone could consider this an idyllic life shows just how out-of-touch communists are with reality. Do you agree with the threadstarter that you should try to "turn the world into one giant commune"? What about those of us who prefer civilization to barbaric life?
