I wasn't sure which section to put this in since it sort of applies to both mental health and communes.

I've been struggling with mental illness for the past 10 years and I'm at a point now where I really think I'd like to live in a supportive alternative enviorment. I want to detox off my medications (maybe for awhile, maybe forever). I've done the typical mental hosptial/psych ward/DBT classes/therapy thing and that just isn't getting me anywhere.

so there is a place called Zuzu's place http://yoism.gaiahost.coop/zp/ which is not a treatment center, but just a house of people who have had emotional issues and that interests me. Most of their website is down, including their contact info.

I've been looking in the community directory and haven't been able to find any others that focus on people recovering from mental illness. if anyone knows of others, I'd like to hear about them.

also there is a treatment center near Asheville, NC called Cooper Riis and its an organic farm and I know a woman who works there and it seems pretty amazing. but they charge $6000 a month which I can obviously not afford. (really, who CAN afford that?) I've looked for other treatment centers like that online but they all seem to have a heavy price tag.

sorry if this is disorganized. brain is going fast lately. If anyone has experience with treatment centers or communities with this focus, I'd really like to hear about it.

    Hi strangedoll.

I don't know of any communities offhand that are specifically designed for people with mental iiness but there are a cpl links to intentional communities in the Smoke Signals Forum (members announcements) on this board called; Quit your Job and move to a commune (sorry, my imac wont let me copy links).

I'm thinking it might be worth your while to contact some of these intentional communities and explain what your situation is.

I've been on a cpl communes and the best ones were always alot more concerned about finding people who's hearts are in the right place, regardless of what's going on with their head.

It might be worth a try.

    :) Good luck.
