    Hi all!

I've been on 20mg of Lexapro for 8 months now and am ready to come off it. I was wondering how long it will take to come off it. Will I have to go 20,15,10,5? Or can I jump from 20 to 10mg? How long will each jump down from each dose have to last?

Thanks so much for the help!:daisy:

    Ask your doctor

i suggest going with the slow approach of cutting 5 off at a time..maybe every few weeks as steps

Everybody is different and their reaction to discontinuation will be different. You can try going from 20 - 10 but if you get withdrawals really bad go to 15. Once comfortable at the lowered dose then try the next step... Once comfortable at that step go down to the next, etc. etc. Don't rush it and let your body be your guide. Once down to a low level you may want to try every other day... Some people have no problem with this, others might. This is drug dependent but Lexapro has a long enough half life that this can be tried. (Other drugs have a very short half life and skipping days gets really rough)

Asking your doctor is a good idea but often they really don't know, they should know that you are doing it though.

agree with the "ask your doctor" and "tell your doctor what you are doing" advice

gentle, regular, aerobic activity and a diet of fresh, lightly cooked whole foods may support your transition

    hope it works out!

Thanks for the responses. I did discuss it with a doctor before and he said it was fine to start coming off it. I just can't afford for him to monitor my progress when there's no need and I can do it for myself!

I am going to take it slow and steady. Coming off Lexapro too suddenly is definately something I want to avoid. I know from experience it's just not a smart idea lol.

Thanks again for all the advice! xx
