Brooklyn, New York (VBS.TV) -- We had heard about a drug in Colombia that essentially eliminates free-will in humans. It is called scopolamine and it seemed to us to be so completely out there--like a plot device in an awful Jack Black movie. In fact, it sounded so horrible and strange that we wanted to go down and try it out. So the producers and I compiled a laundry list of embarrassing chores for me to complete while under the influence and, chuckling hysterically to ourselves, got on a plane and headed for Bogota, Colombia. Once we landed in the Colombian capital, it took all of about 60 minutes to realize there wasn't going to be any more laughing. The fear that the mere mention of scopolamine struck in the locals was palpable and startling. As we dug deeper into this drug's story, following the evolution of the plant and its uses, we began to appreciate the gravity of ingesting it. And we became fearful. We heard harrowing tales from victims and perpetrators alike, sat with prostitutes who calmly explained administering the drug to unsuspecting johns, and visited the home of a man who confessed in chilling detail to murdering someone who had dosed him with the drug. It was difficult to believe at times, but we spoke to countless law enforcement officials and medical professionals who verified all that we'd heard, and who also expressed their frustration and fear with what they saw as a growing problem. See the rest of Colombian devil's breath at VBS.TV thats pretty scary shit right there wonder if its really true?
scopolamine sounds a lot like a drug i was given during my recovery from surgery... it was to prevent nausea caused by the dilantin that i was taking for pain. according to wiki, it was also used as a truth serum by the soviets. HOAX
Haven't the voodoo priests been using something like this for years? I remember seeing something on cable about the zombie myth. They said that those people were only drugged, not under a supernatural spell, which took away their will.
yeah, some chemical they get from blowfish that makes them appear dead. i've heard of it before on tv, some crime show. other than that, i have nothing.
Amazing, the derivative of the plants is not new and has been used for a long time in medications that are safe and effective. Along comes a reason to abuse and we have a new drug......got to love mankind for extremes.
Yeah, there is a great Ethnobotany book called "The Serpent and the Rainbow" by Wade Davis about that. It is a really fascinating read.
Tetrodotoxin (TTX). I did a review paper on it last year for my junior seminar class. It's in a lot of animals, mostly marine (with the exception being a wood salamander some guys accidentally killed themselves with on a camping trip when it fell into their coffee pot). Fugu, anyone? It's scary shit. I'm not about to fuck with it- cultural sensitivity be damned, if I ever get to Japan, they'll just have to be insulted. The zombie thing is crazy. Ever see The Serpent and the Rainbow? The one mentioned in the OP is pretty frightening, but I don't think anything can top waking up in a pine box with a ton of dirt on top of it with nothing but a little bell to ring in hopes someone will come and dig you out while you try not to have a heart attack from sheer terror. That said, they're exploring the possibilities of medical uses as it blocks an important pain pathway. Its effects against nerve pain were promising if I remember correctly. It was sad reading about the little mousies used in the tests, though.
Scopolamine is actually one of the active chemicals in datura, brugmansia, and belladonna. Many people use these plants recreationally and ritualistically for their deliriant effects. They can produce effects similar to very high doses of benadryl(diphenhydramine) and dramamine(dimenydrinate), but are much more dangerous. I heard about people using the chemicals/plants to rob/rape people years ago. It's crazy shit. And yes.....it's true.
Interesting but not new. That is the thing about datura and belladonna. When you are under the effects it is really hard to tell if it is real or if it is just a dream.
Indeed. My experience with deliriants was crazy. Having hallucinations that I didn't know were hallucinations is not good. lol
wow thats sum crazy shit rite there...god forbid this drug gets into the wrong hands, there sooo much potential for evil things if it does
It is all fine and dandy if you are sitting on your couch hallucinating. But for me the problem was I got off the couch and went outside. It seemed like a dream. But I was actually going out and interacting with people and doing things. Most people get into trouble that way. Somehow I lucked out.
Damn....datura? Well I've never tried any of the trapane alkaloids, but I've definitely taken hella diphenhydramine. I took 775mg of diphenhydramine(31 benadryls) and drove a car. hahaha That was pretty fuckin stupid. But yeah......it would be very easy to get into some trouble in that state of mind, because you don't realize how fukt up you are. I mean, I was so fukt up on the benadryl that I actually tried to watch a DVD in the VCR and I put my TV remore in the dishwasher. Crazyness. It's like temporary schizophrenia or something.
I have access to a lot of plants. Also a lot of people do not realize when you take datura the pupils in your eyes dilate, sometimes for weeks. Same basic chemicals that eye doctors use to dilate a someones eyes is in datura. Of course the other chemicals are removed. I always tell people datura is not for fun. Most do not believe me until they take it. It is also highly toxic, and poisoning yourself is easy if you over do it. The Aztecs used datura on the people who were sacrificed on top of the temple. It allowed them to easily talk the victim into walking up to the temple and laying down to getting the heart cut out of him while he was still alive. This is after he watches the people in front of him getting their hearts cut out. Intense stuff. Tons of historical documentation. Temporary schizophrenia is a good description.
Yeah delirium definitely isn't fun. It's hella interesting though. I imagine datura and the like is on a whole different level than diphenhydramine, and I know it lasts longer than diphenhydramine. The dehydration was always the worst part of the dph. Made me feel like shit and my heart was hella confused; tachycardia one minute and bradycardia the next. Definitely not healthy. Did you experience any of this on datura/whatever?
I definitely felt dehydration when I was experimenting with datura. But I do not know if some of that was how I took the dose. I took it as an extract so the horrible taste kind of lingered. Very irregular heartbeat . I had nausea big time. Trip lasted almost 2 days. It took about a week for my eyes to get back to normal size.
