My parents are already making me think of colleges for the future?Do you guys have any good suggestions. Some place that there are alot of hippies to fit in with.
My only suggestion would be... if you are just starting to look at colleges, look for academics first, then the social aspects second. You don't want to go to a college with mediocre academics just because hip people are accepted there. Do you have any idea of what you might want to major in? Even just a general field?
Massachusetts has a ton of amazing colleges. Brandeis is in Waltham and where I want to go- it's very politically active and liberal plus a vegan cafeteria if you're into that kind of stuff. Only issue might be that a) it's a Jewish school (though not very religious, it was just founded by the Jewish community but it's only 50% Jewish), b) it's really expensive ($40,000 a year), and c) you have to have AMAZING grades. I'm just super partial to it. Also around the area are the University of Vermont which I've never been to but is supposed to be pretty hippie-ish, anything in Amherst, and lots of other colleges in New England. One of the best things to do when you're just starting to think about colleges is go around visiting different ones to get an idea of what you like. Some people love the idea of large colleges, but when they get there they just know it's not for them (that would be me). You can start to pinpoint what you like so you narrow down the options. But just like Immortal said, academics are more important than the social aspects so make sure to weigh that the most heavily. But you still have plenty of time and you'll probably change your mind 100 times between now and when you actually have to apply. It's just a good idea to start thinking about it so you're ahead of the gang and not stressing about college tours and choices at the last minute.
i go to cal arts (california institute of the arts) in souther california. the academics are amazing and so are the people. the campus is small, lush with trees, and clothing optional! if you want to pursue art, i'd highly reccomend cal arts. if not, take a look at hampshire college and CU boulder
That is so true. You can find cool people at any college. I have gone to two colleges so far and have met awesome people at both. Currently I go to Berry College. It is the one of the largest college campuses in the world with 28,000 acres of land. www.berry.edu
Step one is finding a school that offers undergrad majors that prep you for your grad work (presuming you go to grad school). If you want to be a nurse for example, it's kind of important that you go somewhere with a school of nursing.
