So I'm a junior now and I'm gonna graduate next year. I have an OK GPA, I hold around a 70 average between all of my classes. I took one AP class last year, two this year, and 4 next year. I haven't done shit for community service, and I'm not really involved in school activities except for football. My main priority is to get into URI or UConn. I have several other schools I'm interested in such as the University of Vermont and a few local schools (SCSU, CCSU). Am I good for my goals? Is college really as hard to get into as everyone makes it out to be? Help me out from previous experience.
the best information you can get on this'll probably come from your high school guidance counselor. some schools are hard as hell to get into (ivy league and whatnot). state schools you can usually get into if you have like a 3.0 or higher gpa...i think. i'm really not positive. i dunno, schedule an appointment with your counselor.
All of the colleges around here are easy as hell to get into so I'm not worried. When I'm older I'm gonna be an electrician/drug dealer. Nah I'm just kiddin' I aint gonna be a fuckin' electrician.
Yeah I am looking into the University of Vermont as well, I am going to visit there this summer. Do a bunch of community service all the summer and you should be set, especially considering your 7 AP classes (as long as you aren't failing them).
I failed the one last year, but I got credits in summer school for it. My teacher said if I pass this year's test he'll raise my grade from a 61 to a 90, but I'm definitely going to fail it. We haven't even finished the book yet.
HOLY FUCKING SHIT you should already be studying in class, the tests are this week and next week lol I am only going to have 5 AP classes, but I did a bunch of community service for our park district last year involving planning a music festival, I played soccer freshman year (at least it is something lol), but the main point is that I have a 4.3 GPA
Last year my teacher was nuts and got us real prepared for the test, so I got a 2. This year my teacher is MAAAAAAAAD chill but I put more effort in so I don't know whats going to happen. Most likely I'll fail, I'm taking U.S History and English Language and Composition I think its called, which is going to be fucking EASY.
i hate to break it to you but a 70 average isnt "ok", its pretty bad. buckle down, study hard, do your homework and take your sats and acts once before you take either of them twice
And you're prevented from reading ahead because....? Blaming a teacher for either not motivating you or not handing you stuff on a plate is bullshit. If you wanna pass and your teacher isn't helping, do the fucking work yourself.
Yeah you're gonna have to raise your average a little bit if you wanna raise the chances of you getting into those schools.Volunteering isn't that bad.I volunteered at this art gallery and did a few other things, but we had a class that required doing volunteer work so that helped. You can probably join a club or two but most definitely try and bring them grades up.
I would get some community service done. You said you're involved with football and you are taking AP classes - that shows that you are interested in trying and doing decent. If you can pull off a B average at least next year and do some community service, you'd be pretty good for a lot of schools. Personally, I'm not involved in SHIT and I have 0 community service, but I've gotten a 3.7 GPA throughout highschool so far. I applied at Mizzou and I got in no problem. I really wish I would have done a little more and maybe I could have gotten some scholarships to go out of state, but I've always looked at going to MU so...eh
If you can bring your grades up you have a really good chance of getting into anywhere you'd like. you already have some activities under your belt, and adding a few more wouldn't hurt either. good luck!
i go to CCSU. it's a great school with a lot of cool people and let me tell you the girls here are AMAZING
Get that elitist bullshit out of here, that's why teachers exist in the first place. Learning a couple centuries' worth of information in a matter of months isn't that easy.
^Word Typically books aren't written for the masses either. The wording is really screwy and can be extremely dense and lame. Especially if it's a history class. I have figured that AP classes are really a shitty way to go about getting college credit. If you fail that test, you have pretty much fucked yourself. If you have dual-credit courses go that route instead, the work you put into the class year-round will pay off and you won't have a chance to bomb everything on a single test.
