Has anyone had the chance or opportunity to view this? http://www.codexsinaiticus.org I have read many theories on how the Christian bible was compiled and with finding of ancient text over the past several decades; have they intentionally been mis-led?
I'm pretty sure that it's long established historical fact the books of the bible (or the torah before it) were culled from multiple sources. The christian example would be (I believe, i'm not a religious scholar) the council of Nicea, where the books of the new testament were chosen from hundreds, if not thousands, of different gospels. Not only that, but the books themselves, particularly the earliest, were the combination of several different sources. This is why there are two creation stories in Genesis (the one we're more familiar with, Adam being created from dust first, and then eve from his rib, and both adam and eve being created at the same time, from a lump of clay divided in half.) Not only that, but some of the themes and symbols, like the tree of life, exist in earlier texts (the tree of life features prominently in the epic of Gilgamesh, often touted as the oldest surviving work of fiction). There are also allusions to gods from the Israelite's earlier pantheon. An example is a prohibition on sacrificing children to Moloch.
The Codex should be returned to the monestary. It was lent out from the library, and then wound up in the British Museum... And I agree, it is well believed even by many Christians that the Bible is compiled by many authors (and some pseudo-authors)
I'm not questioning that the book is a hodge podge of whatever they could bind together... I was asking if anyone had the opinion that they intentionally been mis-led? Steered away from the truth.
