Just got back from the midnight showing of Cloverfield. It was absolutly AMAZING!!!! It was not exatly a horror movie, but it did scare you. Its in a class of its own. Its all shot from the perspective of a regular citizen recording it on a camcorder. The actor were not well known, but they did an amazing job, and i think the fact they were not well known, made it even better because you didnt feel like you were wacthing a movie. Has anyone else seen it?

I haven't seen it. I was wondering is the camera work better than the camera work in the movie The Blair Witch? I am also hoping that Cloverfield is way better than The Blair Witch.

You have to go into Cloverfield knowing what you will be seeing. It's not meant to be watched as a movie, but more as an actual documentation of a monster attack. Yes, some of you may get sick from the shaky camera, but that doesn't take away from the sheer epicness of the film.

    My gripes:
    1. The intro party stuff was too long. I know it was to development characters, but like I said this isn't your typical movie in terms of a solid plot. Taking away most of the character development wouldn't have been horrible. Then again, I am an action junkie.

    2. I know they were going for realism in the camera, but there's got to be a way to make it shake less. I don't know, it annoyed me.

    3. The ending sucked. Now I know that since the movie wasn't supposed to be a typical movie a happy ending was pretty much out of the question. But there were still some aspects of the movie that sucked. For example, when the second helicopter takes off and its going alongside the monster as it's being bombed. Well, when the monster jumps out of the rubble and hits the helicopter I found that part to be rather unbelievable. The helicopter was much too high up. Also, Hud does not need to die. At least show some carnage besides his motionless face.

Overall I enjoyed it. I'll buy the DVD.

Oh yeah, Marlena's kill was intense and very awesome.

I saw this movie last night and i thought it was freaking awesome. The acting was solid and their reactions were spot on. I was literally on the edge of my seat the whole time. I had no issues with the camera work and what not because it added to the effect very well. The best movie i have seen in 08, i reckon it deserves a 10/10 just cause the way it was filmed gave a good connection with the 5 main people.

edit: if its worth noting i didnt even know about the hype on the internet and essentially went into the movie blind, i only ever saw the trailer.

Great movie! A must see. It was scary. The only one that made it was that black girl that went in the first chopper. The ending was good because you'd expect a happy ending. Those things falling off of the monster could mean it was a female. That was creepy what happened to the girl that got bit. Blood just exploided up out of her.

Hey Sign Related, your sig cracks me up!

Bronson, after the monster chewed him up and spat him out, I would have been pissed if Hud didn't die!

I'm tempted to tell why the movie was named Cloverfield, but I'd rather you found out by seeing it.

I saw the movie stoned, and I'd recommend seeing it that way. Even if you're not you ought to enjoy it.

Yes some of it was pretty dumb, like that woman surviving being impaled through the chest on that steel beam, and then later running for her life, but overall the movie is a lot of fun! The best scene is when the stealth bomber drops a couple bombs on the monster's back.

The only thing I didnt like was it was too short, it was only 1 and half hours. I think if it was a longer movie the intro party scene wouldn't seem way to long. I dont think Hud needed to die either, but at least his death gave us a awesome shot of the Monster. As for the monster jumping high enough to get the helicopter, I dont think it was unbelievable that it jumped that high, I think it unbeleieve that it was acually able to find and hit the helicopter. IT wouldnt be able to see with all the smoke and stuff. But overall it was an amazing movie, i would and probibily will see it again.

Good movie. The shot of the military advancing on the monster while they are hiding under cars was intense. When they find out Marlena is bitten and they rush to quarantine her and she explodes was so intense and cool. I hope they make a sequel that explains everything.

it was indeed a great movie... but i wonder if it will stand the test of time. Its kinda like going back and watching independence day and seeing how cheesy the graphics are, even though they kicked ass in '96

You stumped me - I still can't figure out why they called it "Cloverfield".

It was a class A movie. The first time in a long time that I was on edge throughout the entire film. :)

I figure the government was reveiwing the tape by the beginning. Makes you think it was a project by the gov though it turns out the monster came from the sky indicating it came from space.

I figure maybe the name cloverfield is because of where the military defeated the huge monster or the city they turned into a dead zone.

I loved this movie! I got kind of dizzy from the handling of the camera, but I totally understood the effect they wanted to show.

    Makes sense.

I thought that the government part was meant as a documentation of what had happened. Naive me!

I'm recommending this movie to anyone who listens to me. My friends are getting tired of my singing its praises.

I thought it was good. Sign related, JJ abrams said the monster came from the ocean. What you see falling from the sky in scene of the movie is a Satellite that when they go to retrieve they awaken the beast at least thats my assumption. All I know is the thing you see fall from the sky in the final 10 seconds is a sattellite and according to what I've read the monster wasn't an alien. Then again I could be wrong.

Okay I'll tell. At the very beginning we learn that Cloverfield is just the code name the Department of Defense gave to the operation where they fought a giant monster in NYC, that is Operation Cloverfield. They never gave a reason why they named it that, just like there's no reason they named it D-Day.

Cloverfield was initially used as the project name for the movie, but when the internet hype always referred to it as Cloverfield, they decided to keep the name and write it in. The name originally came from the street that JJ Abram's production company is on.
