Do ya have them around where you live, there seem to be a lot of them this summer.. I don't usually like bugs, but their buzzing is kinda soothing at night..

    Peace

I haven't heard them a whole lot quite yet. Which is really strange now that I think about it. Usually they start getting really loud mid-July.

Seems we have the kind that show up about every 17 years, I think.

I hear them a lot, but I hadn't seen one in a few years until I saved this little guy from my fat cat:

Love cicadas. Gotta be my favorite bug. They're like a giant housefly without the gross connotation.

    i've got nothing.

all i hear this summer is the landscaping guy that shows up right outside my window once a week and stands there with his leafblower going from 8 a.m. to noon.

funny you should mention this because I am sitting here tonight hearing them outside my window for what seems like the first time in ages. I remember when I was younger I used to hear them all the time.

I never bothered to ask anyone, but is that what that constant buzzing was that I heard when I lived in South Florida?

It's them or katydids. They have a more rhythmic pattern to their buzzing like buzbuzbuzbuzbuz, where cicadas just have a sustained buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

I was wrong! Last night, shortly after I replied to this thread, my friend came and picked me up and while I was waiting on her, I decided to sit on the porch with the stray kitties because it was really nice out there and I heard that great sound. I loooove the sound of cicadas. It's so pretty.

I was just talking last night about how annoying cicadas are. Those fuckers are loud.

i just saw a dead one yesterday. come to think of it, i haven't heard any this summer, but maybe i just tune them out. also a funny story about cicadas:
my ex and i are in the car (he's driving) windows down, beautiful night then zzzzttttt.
    we're like "wtf?!"
i look and there's one sitting on his back and to avoid being killed i just tell him to pull the fuck over. he gets out, wildly tried to get it off. we think it flies off. so as we try to pull off the side of the road we get stuck an mud starts flying in the windows. we finally get out.
we're on the road and zzzttt ztttzttttttttzzzzzzt
    fuck!
so we pull into an almost empty parking lot. ther is one pick up truck with people standing around.
i will describe the scene from their view:
us (covered in mud) taking a baseball bat to the back seat of the car screaming and spraying some sort of aeresol.

now that i look back. i feel bad little cicada is dead. but i only have one rule for bugs: don't touch me and i won't kill you.

I like the sound of them. Reminds me of when I was a kid playing in the fields near my house before there were houses there. :(

LMAO, that's hilarious. I have the same rule for bugs! And also, don't be a scorpion is another good rule for bugs.
