I rarely drink, but I think I should get some beer and listen to some records. We got invited to a friend's family dinner, but I'd rather stay home. I'll be more comfortable and it will be more fun. What beer should I get? Pressed Rat?
I went to the store yesterday and the beer room had been raped. =[ not good for a German town so I bought a bottle of rum instead.
I'd probably throw up at the smell of rum. I drank way too much as a teenager, never really liked it either. It was cheap and effective.
As far as Christmas beers go, I feel you can never go wrong with Anchor's yearly Christmas offering. Great Lakes Christmas Ale is another good one. Lately, I have been enjoying 2XMAS by Southern Tier -- an imperial spiced ale which was inspired by a Swedish glogg. It's a very heavily spiced beer, so if you don't like spiced beers, you won't enjoy this. What I like most about this beer is its smooth, creamy-almost-chewy mouthfeel. If you like hoppy beers, Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale might be a good choice. I, however, find it to be slightly overrated. There are tons of other Christmas beers out there that I haven't tried, either because they're not distributed here, or I just haven't gotten around to trying them yet.

i just tried the winter seasonal by Stone brewing co, Double Bastard. warms you right up in the cold. great if you like strong, bitter type beer. highly recommended
Tonight I am drinking the 2012 'Santa's Little Helper' from the Danish brewery Mikkeller. They make some fine brews, but unfortunately they're very expensive here in the states. This brew in particular is a Belgian-style strong ale brewed with spices. This bottle, though it is relatively big and has an alcohol content of 11%, cost me over $18 with tax. It's certainly very good and very over-the-top for a Christmas brew, though a tad bit too much on the sweet side. However, for being so high in alcohol, the alcohol is hidden quite well. I like it, but I probably wouldn't spend that kind of money on it again.
^sweet fuckin post brah. i love mikkeller. i got to meet him when he was in Austin brewing a beer with Jester King brewery
