China's victory compleat? I may be way of on this and if i am i appolagise. My heart bleeds for Tibet, because of the victory they have given China. I have always had the deepest respect for the monks in tibet and for the Buddhist religion, even if my understanding is very limited. Even though, I could never hope to be a person that any one would call religious. But if there were one religion or belief I would long to be a part of, it would be the buddhist religion. I have seen so many religions fail and fold under pressure, all causing so much disappointment. But some how, I expected more from the buddhists. Any religion were a person will willingly set fire to them selves to inspire others or to inspire change with out hurting others is frightening in its sincerity and conviction. But when I see young monks on TV involved in riots, in any form, is very disheartening. I suppose no one really expected them to be perfect. But when I read a book, about the Dali Lama that is supposed to be showing the way to others, and I see what I would call cheap and provocative unnecessary shots at the Chinese. (right or wrong). And when I see the complete victory that the Tibetans have “willingly given” to the Chinese, by Monks, treasuring there human boundaries, apparently worrying more about fighting for earthly trappings, justifying every war that was ever fought for Land or Pride. Limiting themselves to NON EXISTENT, HUMAN POLITICAL BOUNDARIES. Tricked and trapped in this mortal relam into bickering over what IS NOT REAL. Involving them selves in the sin and distraction of pride, IN MAN MADE BOUNDARIES, and choosing to belong to one peace of land rather than an entire world or universe. Dirt has a value in growing plants and helping sustain the life's of those who are locked in this realim, refusing to see. And weather you are buried in China, Tibet, Russia, England,Or set on fire or dumped in the ocean. In the end it has no real value. And this is what the monks in tibet have really lost. Passing up the opportunity to stress by there actions, “the spiritual” , by there fighting for the material. Better to wander in the wilderness with out a country or home, AS RECOGNIZED BY THE AVERAGE HUMAN, and lead by example, than fight for dirt or man made boundaries. Tibet has already lost, but not because the Chinese have taken any thing from them, but because they willingly participated in competing for what is not-real simply out of fear, pride, weakness, lust to dominate, or other forms of weakness. Trapped forever in this realm, unable to rise above the temptation, placed in front of them. My heart bleeds for Tibet and the monks, because of the victory they have willingly given China.
Tibet gave nothing to China. China stole Tibet. As for demonstrating, have the monks used violence? In today's NYT Op Ed, it was suggested that the Olympics combined with the American Congressional Medal of Honor fronted by Nancy Pelosi were the causes that gave Tibetans false hope for some sort of support from America and other 'democratic' nations. But Tibetans were wrong about that support. If you think monks are other worldly and should all set themselves on fire like that famous Vietnamese monk then think again. That was extreme behavior, and if monks in Tibet went around immolating themselves it still wouldn't have an effect on Chinese policy. Not one iota.
They aren't fighting for land or for material comfort. They are fighting the oppression of decades of violent rule in which they have been denied the right to practice their religion freely. Half of their practices are outlawed. There are cameras and microphones in the monasteries, so the monks cannot speak freely. Dissenters are imprisoned and tortured for years and years with inhuman and sickening methods. It would be a horribly unbuddhist thing not to resist such.
