I couldn't help but notice recently whilst out partying in Holland that checked shirts are all the rage these days. I've always been a checked shirt kinda guy. I like them! Stripey shirts not so much. When I came over to Holland 5 years ago stripey shirts were all the fad, and any time I went out to buy a new shirt I couldn't bloody find anything I liked, and I ended up having to buy my clothes from the second hand store, which I prefer to do anyway. I just found it amusing all these dedicated followers of fashion, and there I am always look a like that. But all their checked shirts look shit, and cheap, and there I am with my authentic edinburgh woollen mill tartan-esque shirt. I remember one time in my first year at university I went out to the all nighter at the local union, and I turned up with black jeans and a black t-shirt and a kind of silly looking bright coloured tie. Do you know what they all did, they laughed at me is what, and everyone told me to take the tie off, and I ended up bowing to peer pressure. NOW what are all these emo fags wearing? Exactly what I was wearing back in the day. I'm fucking 20 years ahead of the times bitchez! I ain't no emo fag though make no mistake about that. so if you all want to know what the fashion trends of tomorrow might be, just take a look at what imma wearing because I'm the hip pimpster.
That's weird. I thought checked pants and striped shirts were still in. That's mostly what I see in stores.
Actually, I see where you are coming from. I've always had a quirky fashion sense and actually went through years of turmoil in school for it. Christ, even liking rock music was enough to get yourself a serious problem with a troublemaker. Now, of course, my bullies kiss my ass, and furthermore ask me to chill out and go to rock gigs with them. They can fuck off, of course I did the black shirt, trousers and coloured tie back around 2002-ish. Spotted Jade Puget supporting the look in an AFI video, with the tie tucked in at the top. It's a funky look, through in a pair of sneakers and some nail varnish and you're well i End of, one minute people can mock you, next they are dressing/acting like you- just fashion and life.
Yeah man this was in 1991, right in the middle of the goth/indie/alternative music phase, and I was a naive young boy with not a great deal of self esteem. I decided to be a bit wacky, and I turned up to this do on my own (meeting friends inside) and the two douche bags at the desk not only laughed at me, but they did so under their breath and made me feel really self conscious for the rest of the night. They're probably all fucking wearing suits and working in offices and driving 4x4's now, and I'm still dressing like I want to.
Yeah, checks are in! It's a bit weird because I remember jeans t-shirt and an old tartan shirt were my staple wardrobe in the early seventies. Probably because that's all the clothes I possessed. You could stuff them in a rucksack and it didn't really matter what the fuck they came out like they just got worn.
