Chatrooms on hip forums

Folks, Hip Forums has an excellent chat room(s) that is oddly not utilized to near potential. This is a real shame for many reasons. First of all, you will not see programmed ads blasted into the room (such as porno bots which infect even AOL chat). Second, the room is dedicated to the same environment as the rest of the site, so we rarely get hostile objectors.

Hip Forums chat has a small regular group from all over the planet. One of the reasons I got into chat rooms in the first place was the potential for sharing opinions and cultures around the globe from the comfort of my leather desk chair (I AM a professional writer after all). I know there's a stigma about chat room junkies who sign on for weeks, gain weight, lose friends, lose jobs etc.

I've been in chat rooms since Compuserve offered it as the CB Simulator well over 20 years ago. From there I went to various BBS chat services and served as a fidonet hub before joining GEnie which had excellent chat rooms. Then I tried Prodigy, which had so-so chat rooms but excellent email. Then I went on PC-Link while I was in college and finally landed on AOL for a full decade. A good part of that was spent in the Marijuana Debate chat room. That all changed when porno ads started dropping into AOL chat rooms. AOL didn't seem to care. So I reasoned that paying for this was outrageous in the internet age, so I went to Yahoo chat with the Yazak front end using filters for both the phrases porno bots use but wildcard name filtering that catches patterned multiple screen names. What a headache just to chat. Not to mention the virus protection, firewall and spyware programs running just to keep me connected.

But thanks to chat rooms I know well over 100 cool people I would never have known otherwise. It's a wonderful community of minds and the one here on hip forums is really quite good, just not utilized enough. Drop in, it's easy (although your system may have to update Java, it's a really good Java implementation that doesn't hijack your browser).

the hipchat is great, def worth checking out when folks are in the room. Its been really picking up lately too - I dig it! Its one of the reasons I wandered in years ago, and ended up sticking around.

 

Yeah, chat is cool. I have met a bunch of incredible people in there. The converstaion is (usually) stimulating, and people alow others to have their own opinion. I think most of us get along, even if there are a few who don't like me. Hip Chat is just a place for people to hang out, relax, and be themselves.

 

Henna, who couldn't like you Yeah guys... it's a wonderful place... i've been a frequent flyer (haha there's some truth to that) in there for nearly 2 years now..... and i've met such amaing people........ they're pretty much my fanily.. great, friends, warm company... stop by.. we wont bite.... unless you like it that way

 

"Family" You said it Court. The people I have met in chat are amazing. I'm not sure I could go through the things I'm going through in my life right now, without my friends from chat. The phone calls and texting have kept me sane. I appreciate you all. Thanks so much.

 

I totally agree... the hipforums chat their my homies.. mi comprades... I mean everytime Im freaking out about something retarded.. I can always find someone in there who will laugh their ass off at me haha ... but yea everyones pretty chill in there.. there is some umm interesting convo's in there.. if you get bored I definately recommend it especially cause I love my homeslices sooo much

 

oh and btw it's an awesome place to find chill people who MIGHT just might live near you I mean Ive been talking to 2 different people in there and had NO clue they were soo close.. the one girl actually knows people I know and places I go.. and so does the other person its pretty cool

I've gone into HF chat and there is never anyone there... But I can tell you other chats have gone to the dogs..I haven't 'chated' in the rooms in yrs and was helping my grand daughter find a decent place to hang out, she's 14. There is no decent place for a young lady or old one for that matter to go and form/be with 'chat family' and no be harrassed by.. well y'all know what I'm talking about.

At any rate I would like to chat with folks and get to know them better,and for ones to get to know me a little better too. Perhaps soon.

I don't know what I'd do without my chat buddies. I have met great friends in there, they know me so much better than those I have in real life.

The Hipchat is a place where you can just go to chill and hang out with friends.

 

Another thing, if it applies to you, is this: It's a place to hang out with other cool stoners but not have to share any weed!

 

I've been going into chat for a while now, I've met some great people there. Some of them know me better then my own family.

I'm a newbie to HF, but I got into the chatroom and had a lovely time with some folks.

If I may make a suggestion - would it be possible to switch the chat program from Java to flash? I have used Flashchat before, and I've never had trouble with it. It integrate perfectly with vBulletin, phpBB or SMF boards. It only problem is its refresh rate which I think might be fixed in its newer releases. You can have Flashchat on an experimental basis and if it doesn't work well, you can switch back the current java client. Just my 2 yens.
