When I say that we need to abandon technology, the majority of people believe that I'm advocating to return to living like cavemen. Well I'm not and please allow me to explain.

    1. What I'm advocating is a return to craftsmanship, where a person's value was not based on money or how much junk he owned. But the quality of his work.
    2. I'm also advocating a mechanical based society. Now when I say "mechanics" I'm referring to things like gears, pulleys, pumps, etc. It was the type of society we had in the up until the late 60s.
The 60s were anything but a stroll in the park. But all things considered equal, we enjoyed a much higher standard of living than most do today. There was pride in our work and opportunities were plentiful. Even in many situations, illiteracy was not a curse because men that didn't like school could drop out and find paid labor training. Furthermore women had the option of staying at home to mother their children.

Allow me to reiterate that the 60s were tough! I myself met my wife at a protest march. (you can read about it here : http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=427710&f=508 ) But there was some great stuff and I have learned that technology (computers, cell phones, etc) don't make life better. They just make it more complicated and isolate us from each other. Many of our problems today is because we have become a nation of antisocial assholes with no skills other than a google or faceboook search.

So here is the article about how Cell phones are destroying what inside your testicles.

You may want to put down your cell phone if you’re planning on having kids anytime soon. According to an article in the latest Journal of Andrology, recent reports have suggested there is a “possible link between cell phone use and semen quality.” The author of the article, Dr. Sandro La Vignera from the University of Catania, refers to one 2008 report which studied 361 men in an infertility clinic, which concluded that there was a direct link to the “duration of cellular phone possession” and decreased semen quality.

I never carry my cellphone on me and all my friends complain 'broony you are such a pain in the ass to get a hold of' muahaha i've told them why.

I just wear a watch for time and the cellphone is not needed.

You are holding a transitive receiver, think about what signals that little thing in your pocket is being sent that is right next to your private parts.

Don't even get me started on how bad those hands free brain tumor making things are.

I think a rewording would be helpful to your advocacy.

I do agree with you that we need to return to an appreciation of the labor We, the workers provide. It's like we all make these goods for eachother, but all the products have become representations of the companies profits rather than the time and skills We, the workers put into it. Many of us are putting our time into menial work. This menial work is needed, but our society as a whole needs to realize that we need to build our infrastructure on many levels.

With the increased availability of cell phones services and its increasing demand, the risk of electromagnetic pollution has also raised to extreme. The high energy radio frequency waves emitted from cell phones have a telling effect on the human anatomy thus affecting the male infertility also.

Getting sterile from the radiation sounds like a reason in favor of cell phones.

Cellphones being dangerous to your health in general is not really big news. Whenever a new gadget is invented, it is first sold to billions and THEN we are told "oh btw u could get cancer if u use that gadget". Money just rules the world...

I have also been worried about the effects of cell phone radiation. I don't think I really trust the patches though, because they block radiation, but that makes most phones emit more radiation to regain a solid signal. I have looked into some of the new cases that redirects the radiation but doesn't affect the phone. I plan on doing more research though, because I think it is important for everyone to stay up on this topic.

    Thanks for all the thoughts!

A higher standard of living? Really? We're coming upon scientific discoveries constantly that further the health of the people. It seems like every day a new step towards general and mental health is furthered. People are getting real treatment for psychiatric ailments like never before (granted, psychiatry is a new science). In the 60s I'm sure that reactionary people would've said that having a mechanical society is a bad thing. Craftsmanship abounds these days in different forms. Creativity has to do with craftsmanship, and the amount of creative work found on sites like Youtube or Deviantart is incredible. I do agree however that the transition towards office work has removed some of the ability of people to work towards a craft. That's why in this progressive society, instead of having a purely mechanical view of technology, we need to think of how software will allow us to program machines to be intelligent so they can do the work for us and we can focus on our creative pursuits. But that's already happening to a very limited extent

Of the many reasons to not have a cell phone i would think being made sterile is one of the best ones going. I am glad that I have been able to live without one. Many people cannot believe I do not own one. I tend to not go with the crowd on almost everything though.
