Stephen Colbert's show will close in May, 2026.

Critics are saying the closure is in the interest of pleasing regulators who are reviewing a corporate merger between Paramount/ CBS and Skydance. That Colbert's show is too far Leftward. Or that CBS curated / edited a pre-recorded interview w Kamala Harris to show The Candidate in a more favorable light.
Anybody a fan of The Show?

Trump files a meritless nuisance lawsuit against CBS (see 1st Amendment).
CBS's parent company Paramount is attempting a merger with Skydance Media.
    The merger requires FCC approval.
The FCC is nominally chaired by MAGA sycophant and Trump boot-licker Brendan Carr, who takes direct orders from Trump.
Trump, via Carr, threatens to withhold FCC approval, thereby threatening the Paramount/Skydance merger.
CBS, rather than defend the 1st Amendment, offers Trump $16 million to settle out of court, greasing the skids for the merger's FCC approval.
Steven Colbert explicitly calls the settlement a literal bribe, and excoriates Paramount for prostituting their 4th Estate duty to the country in a craven pursuit of corporate profits.
Steven Colbert's show is cancelled the next day.

We watch the next day on YouTube.

We've seen this before when CBS canceled the Emmy Award program The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour in 1969 despite high ratings (fired the brothers).
They committed the sin of having Joan Baez on as a guest, opposing the Vietnam War, and supporting Civil Rights.

Colbert has the audacity to report on Trump and his MAGA idiots in a highly visible manner, that's a no no.

Look for pressure on Jimmy Kimmel next.
Dictators always go after teachers and education (we see that with Harvard, etc.)...and comedians.

When Iraqi comedian Mahir Hassan made a movie making fun of Saddam Hussein, Hussein order the death of Hassan and the Entire cast.

CBS has shown they have no positive values, lack courage, and are basically scared shitless of Donald Trump.
They already threw 60 Minutes under the bus.

It wasn't CBS who wanted him fired. It was Paramount for the merger with skydance. And yes, Jon Stewart is next.

    Technically.

Paramount Global was formed in 2019 through a merger with CBS and Viacom.
Paramount Pictures owned 49% of CBS from 1929 to 1932. CBS was formed in 1927.
They reemerged in 2019, as I said.

CBS is the television arm of Paramount Global.
CBS is still a distinct brand.

What happened is Paramount caved in to Trump over his lawsuit with their partner CBS over their 60 Minutes Harris interview.
Seeing this Trump realized that CBS's parent company and partner, Paramount, is a chicken shit operation that he can bully at will.
CBS also realizes this and rather disagree with Paramount and fight for free speech, they also caved in and fired Colbert.

Not real hard to understand. Even if CBS wanted to buck Trump, they don't have the balls to go it on their own and when they saw Paramount collapse, they ran like Rudy Giuliani's makeup on a hot day.

Colbert didn't criticize CBS, he attacked Paramount. Some say that's what got him fired as he was the top rated show at night.
