I've just got to share a situation to all you HFers...and hear suggestions.

This is the deal...since before noon on Christmas, when I was looking for one of my cats, I was following a meow, and it wound up coming from this locked building from across the road.

Since then I have contacted the owner (who claims not to have the key) to the renter, who has basically turned out to be a Real Pain In the Ass. He has come out to the building, but would not shut up one second, and was determined that "it" wasn't there anymore...well, of course it was.
The day after Christmas I contacted this a-hole again, being just so nice that sugar wouldn't even melt in my mouth apologizing all over the place as he told me that he "don't think nothing of cats, wouldn't have a cat, and was going to call Animal Control on all those cats around there." In my NICEST voice, I told him to feel free to call the Animal Control as ALL of our cats were up to date on their shots, and I could see ALL them as we spoke (I could, too - it's cold outside - lol). But if he could just please park in my yard/driveway which is nice and circular and even be with me and behind me and let me open the door, I was certain I could get the cat out. I furthur even told him I didn't think it was one of mine, I had raised from the beginning; but a stray, still a living animal.

He practically screamed that NO he would NOT do that and was going to take as many fireworks as he could (it turned out to be poppers) and if the "dumb cat didn't get out then just too bad"! More derogatory remarks about cats follow but I mentally blocked them out.

He did appear hours later, along with his MANY poppers, and I guess I don't have to state that the cat did NOT come out... he gave me and my mom less than one whole minute to call the cat from outside before he started throwing those poppers! MANY cats will retreat into their "safe hole" than run away, but you Could NOT TELL this idiot man-renter-I-am-macho-and-know-all this. I could/can only hope that he doesn't leave poison for this animal.

Tonight, I left about 1 hour ago after walking across the road, hearing the cry (after a moment), and pouring about 2/3's glass of skim milk under the door - oh yeah, and I heard her lapping it up.

I have worried everybody involved in that building to death, but nicely, and know that nothing else I do will do any good. But I want that animal out of that building - and I don't think it'll come out for anybody but me or my mother...I think it is a stray that we began feeding about 2 months ago and she would dis and re-appear. I think she had been in that building about 4-5 days when I heard her. However, even if it isn't BB (the stray I named) there is definitely a cat locked up in that building!
There is more junk and crap, besides Mr. Macho's boat, than you can imagine...only about 1000 places for a black cat to well hide.
    What to do.

Assuming the animal and all of yours are registered, (or you will do it when its rescued from the house), call animal control and explain the situation to them.

The only other two options involve you breaking the law.

Me... I wouldn't call animal control, but I would get the cat out, regardless of the putz who either owns or rents the building.

You have spoken to my heart, Tom.

I don't think Animal Control would help me any since this jack-ass would know some of them - he is sort of into policitics, so you can know he is a liar. oops, should I say that? (lol)
I just don't know how to pick the locks - one big yale-type thing on the outside, along with the door itself. That is totally facing the road. From what I all I saw on the inside of what he uses as a storage area, all of the windows are totally blocked (even on the side and back) with big pieces of ply-wood. Damn!
I'm just not interested in that "it will come back to him" crap. I wish I could figure a way to get that cat out.

    1. Ask "nice" neighbour if you can have one of said poppers to try your luck
    2. Headlock him, stick it up his arse, and threaten the prick with your own form of desexing if he continues to be a wanker
    3. Rescue cat:2thumbsup:

You know, the entire trip, from his house to the shop Round Trip(could be a 2 door "working" garage) he uses for storage is not quite 2 miles. His problem is not only with me (which I know from years past that tho' he admits to having no reason, he doesn't like me) but the fact that he has admitted to "having no use for cats".

Big Lots...we have one. Maybe I could just buy a big lock and put it back on there...?nah.
Shit! I don't want to get caught!

If you do not break the hasp then why could you not put a lock on there that they can't open anyways as they say they can not open this one. ;)

I would probably go ahead and get the cat out and worry about the rest later. Replace the lock. If it is a wood building maybe a little hole made in the back and a treat left out?

It's a concrete building, with metal-like doors...thick (about 1" plywood from ceiling to floor covers all windows.

It might sound trite, but I really thank you. You don't have anybody to recommend in SC (USA) ?

If it is the particular cat I'm thinking it is - she is slick as all get out!!!
About 2 weeks ago, I went out to my car around 9:00 am - had gotten in from my cooking gig about 9:00 the night before and CAREFULLY get out so as not to squash kitty tails or heads...anyway, when I went out there the next morning, BB was in there!
No open windows, no way...she had to just slip in the second I opened the door and jumped in the back seat.
I think she is pregnant, and looking for a future place to have her babies...I don't think she is very far along.

Maybe then if you leave food out she will come out for it. If she drank the milk and is hungry, if she found her way in she may know how to get out to eat.

How I wish y'all were right - in that if she found her way in she would find her way out....I think she dashed in there about 1 week ago, when he says he stopped by for just a minute. Just dashed in there right behind him. He wouldn't necessarily have noticed, especially if he went at night. That place is surprisingly tight. He (a-hole renter) said she might have fallen in through the roof; but there were no leaks, so he didn't even see how that happened.
Yeah - the part about a cat being in there AT ALL about undid him...as in made him furious and mean. (Showing true colors?)

I only see a few options.

Try the food and see if she can get out.

Call animal control and hope they help. Might be wise to use a pocket recorder of the meow so that they can hear it.

Break the cat out. Do not call animal control if you are planning this. ;)

You really are rather limited in choices. Wish it were not so but it appears to be. :(
