    So here how it goes I have this cat and she's been urinating outside of the litter box for the past couple of weeks and it's ruining the carpet! First of all I like to say that she doesn't seem ill at all and she has been known to have behavior problems with peeing before. But it's gotten to the point where she won't use the box at all.

    It's getting really annoying since I have been having to buy expensive cleaners (specifically for urine removal) and having to apply several times.

    I've tried many things and so far with little luck. Although we have five cats (all spayed and neutered) we do have five litter boxes and they are all cleaned once daily. She is picky, but that picky? She usually pees in the same spot so I covered it but then she just goes to another spot near it.

    I think something's bothering her. We used to live in a small apartment and we had the same problem but them we moved to a larger home she stopped doing it. Well I don't really know how to resolve this so I'm asking for a little help here. Please?

    fear pissing, my cat does it.... if anything is out of normal parameters...piss outside the box.

    then it's a repeat, the cat's logic is I HAVE TO ASSERT MY SCENT HERE.

    I guess try to figure out what's going on socially with the cat, who's getting more attention, maybe your cat needs more attention.

    too many cats in a small space can be threatening to the social climate of cats.

    Homeopathics & bach flower essences help with anxiety and behavioral problems

    could you have more than one box?

    bigger boxes?

    move the carpet, place something under the littler box for sure!

    I agree with the first poster... this is a social thing, not a physical thing. Your cat feels threatened by the amount of other cats in a relatively small space. Does you cat have a special place that is only his? When 3 other cats moved in with me and my cat years ago he exhibited the same way... but once he developed a special place where he could go to get away from the hoard it got better.

    good luck!

    Well she hasn't been getting as much attention from my dad than she used to at our old house (very long commutes been taking a tole on that). But the house is twice as big as so there shouldn't be any territorial problems.... However she is the "Queen".

    Nope same stuff for over a year now.

    We have 5 boxes, 3 of them are normal open (no top) with matts under them and the other 2 have tops. I wish I could move the carpet without ripping it off the floor...XD My biggest worry about the carpet is that we rent and replacing it would be a huge pain...x_<;;

    Her special place is the downstairs office, only since that's where my dad spends most of his time. She loves to be around him. Problem is that so do the other cats! Usually when he's there 2 other cats are in the room too.

    Hmm, I wonder... try putting "The Queen's" litter box across the room somewhere and hang little curtains around it. (Basically, make it notably different than the others.) Show the Queen to her special restroom and see if she uses it after that.

    If the problem is an attention-getter, and she's having a hard time competing with the other cats for attention, then perhaps try giving her a special treat (a piece of tuna or something else) at least once a day, and don't give the other cat's anything at that time. Maybe she needs just a little bit of royal treatment.

    I don't know, just a suggestion.

    I have a really weird question. Is she peeing right next to the box, or in a wholly different place? My MIL had a cat that would climb into the litterbox to pee, but would hang his rear end out the end of the box. So when he peed, it would get all over the place. We fixed that by getting him a large box with a lid.

    If she's going any old place, I'd guess it's more of a territorial issue, and I'm afraid I don't have any idea at all how to go about helping with that.
    love,
    mom

    Yeah it's not that she's missing, she's purposely peeing out of the box, specifically on the stairs.

    Im not so sure I agree with the social thing.. I work in a shelter.. and have pretty much learned its pretty much a cats nature to use a litter pan..... if you have the time and money I would definately see about taking her to a vet... it might not be something thats really noticeable but a cat going outside of the box is the first sign of a urinary tract infection..... probably something that can be cured with a little bit of antibiotics... I mean if nothing else has worked might as well give it a try right?

    if she uses the box then prays her with a treet every time she uses it
    let us know how you get on with things wont you?

    Here's an idea... completely clean out the litter box. When you change the litter, scrub out the pan before putting new stuff in. Once in a while I have a problem with my cats not using the box, and I've tried the "completely clean" method successfully.

    I also think it's a good idea to talk to the vet about it if nothing else works.

    Yes that's something I've been holding in the back of my head... I'm just not certain you know? I just wish I could ask her....>_<;

    Anyway it's been a while and I think I might have a lead to why she's been doing this. Well, I've notice lately that one of my other cats has been picking on her. For example she will be minding her own business and the other cat will come by and hiss, or 'ambush' her, or swat her claws at her. From past experience it's been known that she'll pee outside the box when she's unhappy about something, maybe this is it? Maybe she's sick and tired of this cat harrasing her for no reason and trying to assert her dominance?

    Well we took her to the vet today and they said she's very healthy and that it's most likely stress that's causing her to pee outside the box. They suggested getting rid of the other cat causing the conflicts.... but I love her too! Why has this become such an issue, they've lived together for two years without fighting? I'm going to try and keep them separated, and see what happens...

    as weird as this sounds.... kitty diapers.... or just buy babydoll diapers... We had a dog that was a fear pisser .. and we let him wear spidey man undies hahahaha.. it got to the point where if he wanted to go for a walk he would go and grab his undies LOL.. it was cute.... but yea it worked for us.. I did it to my youngest cat skittles when she was having some bladder control issues but she got that all straightened out.. best of luck.. keep us updated!
