If I carved a wood pipe what kind of wood would be best? would I have to soak it in something so I wouldnt be inhaling wood smoke? anything else I should know?
You would have to treat the wood to make it burn resistant. Or you could use this method: To prevent your wood pipe from burning, make a 50/50 mix of honey and water and use your finger to spread it around the inside of the bowl. Let this mixture dry. After a few bowls, the mix will create a barrier that will be burn resistant.
You'd need a soft wood if you wanted to use razor blades to carve with. If you got a drill, you'd could cut through the harder stuff. Now that I think about it a pipe made out of a Cherry Wood would taste good I think.
I can't give you a correct answer on that; I know it obviously wouldn't burn while it is still damp, once it has dried, no idea. I found that little bit with the honey from some researching I did a while back when I was making my own pipe and it seems to work rather well. Kind of alters the taste a bit, though.
