Remember those rides at carnivals, fairs, and amusement parks like Coney Island & Dizzyland.

Remember Coney Island, anyone? LOL, last time I was there, there were more cops on the streets than visitors. Nathans was still there.

Anyway, so what rides did ya like?

I loved bumper cars and the centrifuge type ride. Roller coasters and waterflume.

well my mom grew up in new york, on the lower east side back in the 20s and 30s, but i'd never been there until i was 11 in 1959. that was the one time i was there and one of the places they took me was out to rockway beach and the bordwalk there.

also went to dismal land once. when i was even younger. in 56. only time i ever got to ride in a pullman car. uper and lower. on the way down there overnight. down through the valley on the s.p. on my dad's pass. left sacramento in the late evening. got into l.a. in the early morning. then a santa fe local down to anahiem.

don't remember how we got from anahiem station to disneyland. remember getting sick on the tea cup and thought that part of it was crap. they didn't have the monorail built yet. there was this jungle adventure boat trip with animatronic hippopotami coming up out of the water and everythng that was kind of cool there was a kind of track under the water that the boat ran on. then there was the rocket to the moon which was a kind of theather with seats arround a circle with a circular screen on the floor in the middle and another one in the cealing over the top of it.
then there was a drive your own car thing that i wanted to go on and did, but the lanes were really narrow and the curbs were square and high and i kept oversteering and getting snagged on them. there were a bunch of trains though. the one that ran all the way arround the edge of the whole place. we rode that one. and there was the tommarowliner that was a lot like the zoo liner up in portland.

when i was real real little, the 6 months we did live in so cal, before comeing up to nor cal, we went to knots berry farm several times. i didn't thing it was very interesting. i think it was mostly just a store where they sold jam. but my dad liked it for some reason. maybe because at that time there was little or no cover charge to get in.

Rockaway is where I spent many a summer day! I played a lot of Skilbal or skeebal, down there. There was a playland with those kind of games and pin ball and carney type things. It was a nice beach back in the 50s & early 60s! Coney Island was real cool back then.

Oh man...the old wooden roller coasters....which now have been brought forward into the techno age....cuz I can remember when they started disassembling them...over safety issues...
there was an outragous one at "Fairey Land" in Kansas City....but that park is long gone and covered up with another suburbia U.S.A.

in the long lost past....there wasn't a coaster that could go fast enough or twist me around enough to make me happy...so I do have to concede to technology on the developement of roller coasters....cuz todays rides are really a thrill ride

The local type amusement parks are all how pretty much a thing of the past...due to liability isues...which is sad...since there were alot of hours spent by myself at the local one here in my home town.

well from the 80's the matahorn (spelling wrong) Disney has a killer version of this in CA but the traveling one was these cars that were suspended off a bar that went in circles but also in a wavy up down motion and really fast so the car kicks out sideways.

I remember old school fair rides, the ones that are pretty much banned from everywhere because they're dangerous. Waltzers rock!

    The 'Water Chute'.
A cab on a rail took you up to the top of a 'rollercoaster' structure then you slid at speed down the rail & at the bottom went into the water - which was basically a puddle that splashed either side into the troughs.

    That was funnnnn!!!!!.[IMG]

Unfortunatly i haven't been to a carnival in ages. I would like to go to one, but it always seems like the crowd there is very negative (at least in atlanta they are) But I want a pink and white stripped carnival jacket and a top hat, if anyones offerin'. K,thanks.
