Sometimes it's convenient for people to ignore things.

Actually, I didn't assume she noticed anything, but I figured that after posting a link to the picture she challenged me to post, it would have put any preconceived notion that I am overweight and in need of losing weight to rest. Instead she simply made herself look foolish. But then that wouldn't be a first.

He's the one who labeled himself as a work in progress. Why would he lie about that? I took him at his word. I haven't seen his pics.

When he reaches the point where he's satisfied with where he is, he shouldn't give a fuck what anybody else thinks. That's where I am.

My husband thinks I've gone about five pounds too far. He says I had a better ass when I weighted five pounds more. What I have left back there is mostly wide hip bones.

My husband, Type II Diabetic, lost 135 lbs. and needs no medication.

His weight loss was intentional at first but through the course of several factors I won't go into here, he became ill with chronic diarrhea and over the course of several years has lost alot of muscle.

His doctor is happy that his blood glucose is under control.

That's awesome! Diabetes is such a horrible disease to live with, especially once it starts to have an effect on your organs (kidneys, heart, etc.)

Rat, I'm glad you have managed to loose all that weight, and it's an achievement to have done so.

My own problem is the reverse - I tend to be thin, and slightly underweight.. It may not be as bad, but brings its own set of problems. I put a lot of it down to inherited factors. Whatever, putting on weight is not at all easy for me.

My grandfather died from it. After going through a lot... let's see, lost one leg. Then had to have the other leg removed too. Then his vision went (mostly). Then he had a heart attack, which he survived.

But then he was in his wheel chair in the morning, waiting for my brother to come give him his eye medicine and backed his chair up against a door that was left unlocked and behind that door were the steep basement steps.... fell down the steps and died from complications of that within a week in critical care.

In any case, he wasn't much living anyways when it happened so it was almost a relief. And his problem that started it all was diabetes. My grandfather didn't care though. He loved sweets and would eat as much of them as he wanted, because he wanted to. :(

    That's alot to go through.

Maybe he did care but didn't know how to make the cravings go away.

I'm pretty omnivorous. I eat quite well, and I eat good quality food. That was not always so.

To be honest, my main problem is that I smoked tobacco for many years, and at times I tended to live on tobacco, caffeine, and a quite low quality diet. Consequently, now I'm into my late 50's, I'm not generally in great health. But unless you really want to hear about it, I'd just as soon not go into depth on this.

Well if youre trying to gain weight I suggest upping your protein. Even just eating macadamia nuts can help. They have a lot of calories.

I take it you don't drink beer though?

Because that brings on weight pretty damn easily.

Oh and I just saw your post.

I think he was also depressed because he never got over my grandma, his wife, dying...and then his one daughter dying that same year.

Near the end it was talk about moving to a nursing home and he did NOT want that so... I think he gave up really.

I'm afraid to say that yes, I do drink beer. Maybe up to 3 pints 3 nights a week, for the last 4 years. I eat beefsteaks, venison, lamb, even pork now and then. None of it seems to stick. My dear old mother tries to force feed me roast meat as often as possible. Still, I remain stubbornly underweight. But I think the issues of smoking etc I mentioned before may have a hand in it.

Some people just have really high metabolisms. They can eat endless amounts of food and tons of carbs and never gain weight. Other people eat a handful of fruit and gain weight.

My big downfall in becoming obese was beer coupled with a sedentary lifestyle. I believe this without a doubt. I was drinking nearly every night, and this wasn't your typical mass-produced lager beer, but very rich craft beer, some of which has upwards of 30-40 grams of carbs per bottle.

Your right man. The thing is though, it's not really that great if you're skinny, as I would probably be described. You get looked down on, just as fat people do.And even if I can eat endless steaks etc and not put on weight, it is probably harming me in other ways. In my case, since it's most likely respiratory problems that will see me off, I don't worry too much about it. But if I were otherwise fit, I would seek help to increase my weight.

Macadamia nuts seem the most expensive nuts here :( Otherwise I'd try to add them in my diet on a regular basis.

Tree nuts in general are very expensive. Even walnuts, but especially pecans, are very expensive.

If I had your problem, I'd be spending all my money in Italian restaurants.

Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken, OMG! I think I just gained a pound from thinking about it!

This makes you a living example of a point I made earlier. Anybody who starts exercising and cuts back on excess consumption of an unhealthy item is going to lose weight. No exotic diet or sophisticated, detailed medical knowledge is required.

Every time I get into an honest conversation with an obese person, it comes out that they are doing / not doing things that are common knowledge to anybody who understands the most basic facts of nutrition.

So much of the battle in America is social. In my office, all the other middle aged women are overweight, and they love to encourage me to join them when they bring in worthless calories like doughnuts. That has to be the worst food item on the planet. Thirty seconds of pleasure, 140 calories, no nutritional value, no fiber. I wouldn't eat a doughnut right now for ten dollars.

Italian food is one of my favourites.

When it comes to a steak, I really like venison. But I only have red meat about 1 or maybe 2 times a week, as I think there are other issues with it other than simply weight gain.
It's also become very expensive over here to buy quality meat.
