I'm always so astounded by the musical talent that comes out of Canada. I enjoy the Junos alot more than the Grammys! What are a few of Canadian bands/artists that fill you with pride?...or at least you really really like.

    A few of mine:
    Tegan and Sara
    Hawksley Workman
    Sarah Harmer
    Crash Test Dummies
    Neil Young
    Sam Roberts
    Bruce Cockburn
    Joni Mitchell
    Sarah McLachlan
    Ashley McIsaac
    Joel Kroeker
    Chantal Kreviazuk
    Metric
    Rufus Wainwright
    Gordon Lightfoot
    Mae Moore
    Jann Arden
    Randy Bachman (The Guess Who)
*sigh* These are just from the top of my head. I could go on...but I won't.

there's no accounting for hideous taste, Canada has many good things, music isn't one of them.
without the US and UK, there would only be good classical music.

there were some decent punk bands from vancouver BC.......but then there's Nickleback, Crash Test Dummies, Rush, and that band that sang "its been 5 days since you looked at me...."
EDIT:forgot about Godspeed you black Emperor...I'll give you that one too.

    and less than japan.

You guys didn't even mention DOA...played with a band called the Deadly Snakes from Toronto once, they were OK...there weren't a Hawsley Workman or even a Gordon Lightfoot though.

How come you aren't mentioning Celine Dion?! :p

Organized Rhyme (Tom Green's old rap squad)
Avril Lavigne (she's a good musician, just can't listen to it cause it's chick rock)

and i must say this one, most of us here in AB hate nickleback, and all their stupid puns for album names...

Nickleback is the worst thing... besides Avril... Likes, oh gawd... It hurts my ears.

And Avril... no, she's not a good musician. Her songs aren't that great.. or even great at all. They're contradicting, immature, and they just plain don't matter. Not to mention the annoying repetitive lyrics again, and again, and again.

"If I had a million dollars... I'd shoot Avril Lavigne, and we could mount her head on your wall." :D

I don't get this mentality, and I'm not referring to your comment exclusively; Why do people find it neccessary to not simply dislike a certain musician (or politician, or athleate, or crazy guy on the street, etc, etc) but go to the extent of demonizing and loathing them. When it comes down to it she's just a young girl with a LOT of personal issues that have come as a result of her fame and the curruptive manner of the industry, and you speak of mounting her head on a wall? get a life dude

    I prefer DudeTTE

You say that you don't understand why people find it "neccessary to not simply dislike a certain musician (or politician, or athleate, or crazy guy on the street, etc, etc) but go to the extent of demonizing and loathing them. "

You know what I don't understand? Why you would care..
Seriously. I found mounting Avril's head on a wall humorous. It's just an exaggeration of how I dislike her. Get over it. Gawd.

Well seriously now, it's a person we're talkin about here, you mention that name and it's synonomos with a living being, that's why I care. It's an automatic reaction, I can't stand it when people put others on pedistools and pervert them into something beyond an individual. Gawd

    and sorry, duddette ;)

I think if I could only pick one, it would have to be Gordon Lightfoot. His songs are great, and are sometimes overlooked as being other artists just because they were covered by different people (ie. Early Morning Rain).
