I was curios as to if I can run with an open callus, safely? I've heard from unreliable sources that it can cause infection to walk around barefoot with a torn callus. Mine is right under my big toe and today I cut the excess skin that had peeled off.

Can I run today? I'm still sore ofcourse, but will I run into infection? It's all pretty black down there, hehe.

Anycase, Hello to everybody! I love becoming more natural! :)

    GO BAREFEETSSS!

Did the tearing occur because of layer peeling, or because it is really a blister, not a callus? If this is a dry blister or an acute peeling and the skin underneath is thick enough to protect from abrasion, then you should be fine. Note that running may cause added friction to the big toe so go easy. Wash the area later and let it dry off well.

Your risk for infection goes up with any open wound, regardless of where it is on your body. I would highly recommend that you put some antibiotic ointment on it and cover it with a bandage or gauze + tape, even if you wear shoes and socks. That should be enough protection for you regardless of whether you bare the rest of your feet.

First thing in the morning, wash the area thoroughly with soap and water, dry it, then give it a good dose of hydrogen peroxide. Let it dry and apply neomyacin/polysporin followed by a durable flexible fabric bandage. At the end of the day, wash the area thoroughly with soap and water once again, dry it, then give it another good dose of hydrogen peroxide. Let it dry naturally and breathe in the open air as you sleep.

Most cuts will usually heal within a few days using this regimen. You can go barefoot and run or walk whever you like, but just carry a spare bandage in case the first one gets wet or slips. Be conscious of the wound and if running hurts, take a few days break for it to heal.

Two years ago i got a cut deep enough to bleed on a piece of jagged metal, and had to walk over two miles across country on it. When i got home i washed it and put a plaster on it, and it never gave any problems and healed without trace, so feet must be more resistant to infection than you would think.
