this is the root of the calamus plant, obviously. it's been used by native americans for centruies for spirit journey's and what not. when a friend of mine told me about it, i was pretty skeptical at first. then i did some reading, and found, when taken in strong enough doses, it can create intense visual hallucinations. we decided, what the hell, lets try it out. so, we went on a search for this root that grows wild pretty much anywhere there's a good water supply. they aren't all that easy to pull out of the ground though, i found myself on my butt a few times. lol. but, ne ways, on with the story. we got back to his place and did a cold water extraction on the root after cutting it up and drank the water, it was slightly bitter, but nothing compared to how it tasted the recommended way, chewing it up. now, don't expect this to be a fast acting hallucinogen or anything. it very much isn't. it took about 2 hours for any type of effects show up. it wasn't anything earth shattering or anything, just a massive light heartedness and happiness. it was something you could tell was natural. there was a very slight body high that was very interesting. it was like your body almost weighed nothing, but not exactly. it was like a balloon filled with carbon dioxide just chillin on a couch, yet, i could still feell all my body weight. there were minor visual patterns, and minor breathing, and lots of sparkles. we obviously didn't take enough to have to intense visuals that were talked about, so, next time we're going to try taking more. sleeping was no problem, in fact, i think that night was the first night in a long time i actually had pleasant dreams. all in all, i think this is an awesome plant. if not for the hallucinogenic effect, it has amazing mood elevating effects in lower doses. i highly recommend it to anyone.
