I am thinking of buying a private island in the Caribbean. My eye fell on this one. 11.7 acres for just $550k, a few miles out of Belize.

If you happen to have an island for sale of if you wanna share good locations for an island, feel free to say so in this thread. It needs to be in the Caribbean area though, or perhaps South East Asia.

I have always had a weird wish to own an island that wasn't part of any country and just be a law unto myself.

That would indeed be ideal, but I doubt it's possible to find anything like that.

I rather have that island than that money anyway.

Sure, what's the point of your own island without showing off?

If I were to buy one, I'd buy Norwegian or Irish. Or Greek.

Ugh no. You clearly have no taste in islands.

There was an English person who was selling a private island. He wrote a book on his life there.

Does it have planning permission for a hotel/resort?

The problem with living in W Europe is that islands tend to be a bit of a distance. The nearest tropical place is Cape Verde, and Im not sure if that would be for me...

Yeah, as far as I know there aren't even islands for sale near Cape Verde.

I think its just big islands. Property is pretty cheap out there. But I dont know if there's anything massively interesting about it.

Carribean has lots of fun places, but ofcourse its a longer flight.
Other alternative is Middle East/ Med. Former has terrorists, latter has Mediterraneans... So :- (

    Beware!

Islands always have stuff like cannibals, head hunters, pirates, giant man eating crabs, quicksand, king kong, dinosaurs, and Gilligan could show up at any time.

How big are the trees, etc. in your first pic, and what kind are they?

Are there like coconuts and bananas (stuff to eat) there?

And is there any high ground in case of a tsunami?
