Saw it for the first time in aaaaaages last night, what a quality flick, pity about the hollywood ending, still I suppose it would've been a bit crap if it ended and they didn't get there freedom. I love the scenery in it, the scottish highlands at there best. Some of it was also filmed in Ireland. Incidentally the castle in York, they one which the rammed the gates of is the castle in the town I live in and I saw them shoot that scene also other parts were filmed in Bective Abbey which is about 6 miles outside Trim the town I live in.

Here's a picture of it after the filming, all the wooden stuff was added by the film company [IMG]

Here's a picture of it from the other side without all the wooden add ons [IMG]

Here's a link for an article about the caslte http://www.irelandseye.com/aarticles/travel/attractions/castles/trim.shtm

I watched it on a coach driving through Germany in the middle of the night. Perhaps not the best situation, it is a good film though.

    Those pics are fab :)

It's werid how Mel Gibson keeps doing films that portray the English in a bad light.
I'm sure it's nothing personal (born and raised English).

It's true he does seem to alright, but hey the Irish got treated as bad as the Scottish were but hey it was a long time ago, I think most people have gotten over it!! :)

One of my faves... I love the passion of this film, it's stunning. I've seen it over 50 times, yet still cry at the end. Hollywood ending or not, it's beautiful.

    kinda loosely..... kinda very loosely
in real life when they executed him they didn't give him a chance to change his mind
and they first cut off his genitals and cooked them in front of him, the might have fed them to him too I don't remember..., then they cut open his gut and let entrails hang out, and then they stretched him till he ripped in half, then they shipped his body parts to different 5 villages or something like that
