I wish I would have known this before I finished off that bag of razzberry m&ms! Thanks for the post.
Here's a link to the Peta website for more info.: http://getactive.peta.org/campaign/mars_animal_tests. Btw, it appears that they're targeting the Mars company, which makes M&Ms. So that means that we should boycott ALL Mars products, including, but not limited to: Dove chocolates, M&Ms, Milky Way, Skittles, Snickers, Starburst, Three Musketeers, and Twix. Lol, yes, I really did go on the company's website to look up all those names. But, yeah, I don't understand why a company needs to test CANDY on animals. Seriously. The good thing for me is that since I'm a vegan, I'm already boycotting most of those candies, lol.
::GASP:: That's so awful, why are humans so fucked up? ^^Yes, chocolate can kill dogs in larger amounts!! ~PeAcE~
I live directly across the street from the M&M/Mars factory / international headquarters.....it's funny, I have never once seen an animal rights yoho out there protesting....where is the PETA army?
May I also add that Mars, Inc. has a division called Masterfoods (the signs were all changed here at the factory from Masterfoods to Mars last week) which produces dog food....and I think everyone knows that 90% of pet foods are tested on animals.
peta kills animals so whoopty doo.. pet food tested on animals??? LMAO,, what are they supposed to test it on? you wanna test it?? lol
Hillbilly.....that was my point.....they test pet food on pets.....and I think what others do not understand is that M&M/Mars does not JUST MAKE CANDY.....they make a whole load of crap including pet foods....so of course they have animal labs! My mom works in Schering Plough Animal Health division....what do you think they do? TEST ON ANIMALS.....so stop using Schering meds and rubbing Coppertone on your asses at the beach....cause it all has been tested on animals....I have been to the labs...they are a hell of a lot nicer than most "homes" people provide their pets with....oh and did I mention that animals that are retired are placed in homes to live their lives out as pets? Or you could do what Peta did to the Schering in Sussex County and let all the beagles loose to "free" them....btw, about 20 of them ran directly into the road and got hit by cars that day! Until some reputable source has something to say (AND THAT IS NOT PETA) about this....then why boycott? Peta is based on smoke and mirrors....they are radical rights people, not welfarists! If you want to be concerned with candy M&Ms be concerned with what they truck outta that plant on a daily basis as "hazardous material"...a nice metal substance that is the waste product of the candy making process.
Not MILKY WAYS! Please NoOOOOOOOOOOOO! I'm addicted to that shit. PULEEEEZZZE leave Milky Ways ALONE!!! (think Britney Spears video plea) Imagine that... Testing Pet food on Animals.... Who woulda thought...? I think we should test pet food on scientists. Those who put together BAD combos of ingredients - DIE! That'll fix that problem quick...
I test on animals everyday....I make home made treats for my horses and dogs and then test the recipes on them.....haven't lost one yet! And have no fear Skip.....I can make a wicked Milky Way knock off : )
Sorry for the sideline but this thread reminded me about the aussie or kiwi lady that made nutritional supplements for her dogs that was good enough to be healthy and benifitial for humans too and then got lam blasted for suggesting that it would be an affordable option to help feed some of Africa's poor and the world freaked on her because she wanted to give the poor 'Dog food' and that was demeaning.
"peta kills animals," so it's all right for companies to perform painful, unnecessary experiments on animals? That's some kinda logic there, man. Here's what Peta says on Mars' testing on animals... "Mars has funded cruel experiments in which mice were fed a candy ingredient and forced to swim in a pool of paint and water. The mice had to find a platform to try to avoid drowning, only to be killed and dissected later. In another experiment supported by Mars, rats were fed cocoa and anesthetized with carbon dioxide so that their blood could be collected by cardiac puncture, a procedure that can lead to internal bleeding and other deadly complications. Mars also supported an experiment that involved cramming baby mice into small Plexiglas chambers and then submerging the chambers for nearly five hours in a chilled water bath to determine whether or not a chocolate ingredient affected the mice's breathing rates. In the second phase of this test, experimenters shoved tubes down mice's throats to force-feed them an ingredient in chocolate, deprived them of all other food, and finally killed them and cut them up for analysis." THIS is the kind of stuff "testing on animals" involves. It doesn't mean "oh, let's let the little mice/dogs/monkeys eat some chocolate/dog food/whatever and tell us if it tastes good."
Well of COURSE the mice were treated that way! That represents REAL WORLD conditions under which we EAT CHOCOLATE! In fact last week while I was swimming thru a lake of water and paint, trying to find a platform to escape, I immediately thought of the Mars bar in my pocket. As soon as I ate it, I was able to find the dock and get out of the lake. That Mars bar SAVED MY LIFE! Then there was the time I force fed myself 10 Mars Bars thru a tube down my throat while suspended in a tub of 32F degree water. I ate nothing else for days! (couldn't get that tube out!) I finally had to go to a hospital where an experienced mice dissector cut it out of me. Damn I wish eating Mars bars was easier than that!
Can anyone on here find "information" regarding this issue that is FACTUAL and NOT put out by Peta or one of it's sister groups?......because I could not. Peta would gain more respect from me if they actually put their energy into creating legislation that would impose strict guidlines on how animals were treated in labs versus fire bombing them, making ridiculous threats and trying to shock the public....remember that Peta's quest is to end the relationship between people and animals....no pets, no seeing eye dogs, no domesticated livestock, no therapy animals, etc.
I believe you're confusing Peta with the Animal Liberation Front. Peta only goes so far as giving out stencils to teenagers so they can spray paint the heck outta their towns. ALF is the group that breaks into factory farms and labs and such things, to "liberate" the animals. And if you go onto the Peta website, you'll see that they they have no problem with pets (they just like to call them "companion animals," lol), seeing eye dogs, domesticated livestock (unless you plan to eat them), therapy animals, etc.
