Don't know if anyone has seen the pictures of the flash floods in Boscastle... Scary stuff... torrents of water just washing cars away... the bridge over the river has been partly destroyed... buildings that have stood for hundreds of years are now wrecked... cars piled up on top of each over... people being airlifted from the tops of buildings... I love Boscastle... it was a beuatiful little cornish place full of character... fucking awful what nature can do... So far they know of 3 people who are missing... if they were still in those cars, they may have been swept out to sea... Shocking... Fly...
I was eating dinner there a couple of weeks back, so quite sobering stuff! Wonder if the witchcraft museum survived? T'was right on the harbour.....
no way...i havent seen the news or anything..i had no idea what damage had been done..thats so awful...oh man...alot of hearts must be very broken right now i want to come back to the land of corn
Oooh no! Some of the places have been swept away forever apparently.Tis my childhood memories in Boscastle... I wonder if the witchcraft museum survived too, it'd be awful if it's been ruined. Well the whole town. I do hOpe it's okay.... Love, Sunny xxx
I really feel for the village, I'm a big fan of Boscastle despite only spending short periods of time there....was just looking at some old photo's of mine... I'm currently working in a book warehouse and we had a visit yesterday from a couple of people buying for their shop in Boscastle, it's so strange to think that by the time they got home, they may not have had a shop to go back to........
ah boscastle was a lovely place when i went there a few years back.. its shocking to think how much a place can change overnight..
Saw some more coverage on the news this morning... sorry to say, it looked like the witchcraft museum had been damaged quite badly... will let you know more... Fly... .
It is chucking it down again here... really heavy downpour been going on for an hour now... Just seen on the news some other places that have also been washed out by the heavy rains... maybe not as dramatic as Boscastle but with equally devastating effects... But still no deaths as of this time... I hope this remains the case... Fly... .
That is sad I was hoping to visit the Witch Museum in the near future. Hope the collection isn't damaged beyond repair!!
You're fucking insane. That's one of the most callous and insensitive posts that I've ever seen. What the fuck are you talking about? You think it's wrong that we should mourn the loss of people's homes and livelihoods? I can't believe the amount of shite that flows out of your mouth sometimes! While mankind is undoubtedly responsible for fucking with nature and creating all kinds of problems, flash floods are not a new phenomenon. If you have enough rain, you have a flash flood. Especially when a village is built where two rivers converge to flow into the sea! Oh well, I'm sure that will make them feel a whole load better while they're wondering what the fuck they're going to do for a living for the next six months. I'm sure it'll be a real comfort while they're homeless over christmas. I'm sure having lost all the things that hold memories for them will be of little consequence in the face of an insurance cheque. Nice place to spout your rabid and delusional agenda. Perhaps you could get down off your little cloud and post something a tad more sympathetic, eh?
Last I heard there were still 13 people missing and with a hundred or so cars swept out to sea I don't think they stood much chance if they were in one. Not really something to be cheerful about!
I think you'll find the rain's the problem, not mankind covering Cornwall in tarmac (funny that Cornwall is actually one of the least 'developed' areas of Britain, eh? You'd think if your insane bullshit..... erm, theory..... was correct, cities would stand the greatest chance of flooding?).
Just out of interest, what point where you trying to make? I'm amazed that you have shown no empathy with these people whatsoever. You say that they should be cheerful that no-one was badly hurt or killed, perhaps if you paid more attention to the footage you would have seen that a lot of people appreciated that fact and were in a state of disbelief as some of them thought that they were going to die. You sound really angry with these people, why? It's a pretty shocking thing to happen to a village, even for those who haven't lost anything themselves. I know you have a big issue with attachment and consumerism but hell, that's the world we live in and if you want to avoid that - go live in a cave. The attitude that you've displayed is indeed very negative which is amazing from someone who wants to spread positivity. People will get over this. The community will most probably become closer and stronger but that doesn't mean that they don't deserve time to mourn for their lives and some sympathy from those who don't have to experience it.
This is one of those events that will run the risk of being higjacked by people who have particular agandas... The flooding in Boscastle was the result of soem pretty startling events... the weather system produced some spectacular rainfall over a very small area... as aleardy been stated, the amount of rainfall that would be expected over a month fell in a couple of hours... unsurprisingly, the ground reached saturation point... the resulting run-off only added to the rainfall that was filling the rivers that thread through that area... that amount of water resulted in the rivers bursting their banks... and all that water had only one direction to go... down the natural valley to the sea... through Boscastle... with devastating results... Some people will see this as evidence of global warming... some people will see this as evidence of overbuilding... there is probably some truth in both adding to the complexity of what happened... but look at the history of Boscastle and you will discover previous floods... it is the nature of the area... And nothing should take away from the human tragedy... nobody is dead (as yet)... but that should take nothing away from people who have seen their homes and livelihoods destroyed... its easy to say that it has only stuff, but some objects are precious because of what they represent... because of the memories they hold... to see them so comprehensively swept into oblivion cannot be anything other than distressing in the extreme... These people have my total and complete sympathy... Fly... .
Yeah, but that's not what you said, is it? What you actually said was: and... and.. and... You then manage to squeeze in a little sympathy... before continuing to make it sound like the flood was a good thing. It's nice that you've apologised, but stop trying to crawl out of accepting the full responsibility for what you actually said (and I believe meant). You tried to hijack a tragic issue for your own hypocritical agenda. That's what you should be apologising for.
Oh Jesus everyone Dok Atomic is off on another one! I swear he only lives 24/7 on these boards because he has such a sad little life taking photos of peoples rings he has nothing else to do! Why don't you get a job Dok and stop scrounging off the government?...also spend less time on here and get a life! Sad sad little man.
Yeah, I'm sad. And you're stalking me. Hmmm. Who's sad now? Are you just jealous because my employer pays me a lot of money to sit on the internet all day?
