I'm a little pissed. I spent almost $200 on used books for school this summer. I needed money so I took them to half-price books one day and they said the books were worth nothing but they could offer me a dollar. I didn't take the offer. Today I took them back to the college because they were doing the book "buy-back". I had four books and they would only buy one of them for $30. They said the other books were worth nothing. Now I have three books that I will never look at, so I am gonna donate them to the public library. I'm gonna hafta be smarter about this shit next semester.

Half-price books in my town is a joke. the books they sell there are no cheaper than books from Barnes and Noble.

yeah, i learned that lesson after my first semester. as soon as i sold back one of my books, still in the plastic wrapping, for 1/3 of what i had paid for it, i decided to wait until i'd been to each class a few times before ever buying the "required" books.

also, i feel like "used" in the OP should be a link...

College is such a financial scam on so many levels. Costs for pretty much everything is over-priced non returnable bullshit.

I still have some texts that i paid way too much for but i wanted a refund which i didn't get. Now i might as well give them away since its been five years now....

My C++ programming books where massive in size, full of colors, graphs, pictures and just a good solid overall book. I can't get even get 5% back what i paid out of the fucker. That is a fucking joke! They are taking advantage of the students and they know it. Makes me want to burn down the book store...

One of my texts on burning down colleges, which I'll never look at again, was wayyyyy over-priced. And now I can't return it because they say it's not worth anything. I'll probably just donate to the library at the troubled-youth center.

The college textbook market is a huge scam. There is no way that a student can avoid it unless they share or borrow books, which is very inconvenient for those last minute study nights. Sometimes they have book rental programs as well.

They may buy the other books later. Often they won't buy the books unless that class is being taught that semester.

I buy/sell all my books on ebay/amazon. I actually just sold one of my algebra books for $190 on amazon...that's over $100 more than the college offered me.

Dude, most schools offer e-books now, you should ask your school about it.

Your first mistake was buying textbooks.

Put the books on cragslist or better yet put up flyers at your school to sell your books to students. I have been at college for a long time now and have spent at least 180 bucks on books for each semester. It gets worse for me later because I have to take a few language courses after I am done with the courses for my degree, and those books are going to be more expensive!
