http://www.thewrap.com/article/citibank-clients-first-line-dylan-holiday-album-7983 My generation like the republicans will sell out to for the highest price. We'll even publish Christmas albums when we are Jewish. Go figure. Maybe the next generation will be smarter.
So, Bob Dylan can do what he wants, he's Bob Dylan, he's tired of being the voice of a generation. He's already sold out to numerous things, the first being Victoria's Secret
because his last name is jewish and his family is also that ultimately makes him jewish, thanks hitler! i am going to buy that album also. i hope my kids, kids, kids, great-grand-children will keep it and cherish it for the holidays.
I think I'll reserve my judgments on whether Bob Dylan has sold out or not till I hear the album. If it's Bob writing new Christmas songs, it could prove quite interesting.
Bob Dylan is a crazy old bastard who just doesn't give a fuck. He's still making awesome music and, even if I don't understand why he does some of the things he does, that speaks for itself.
i'm kinda looking forward to the album.i think back to his 1970 album self portait in which he sang many old folk songs and material by other artists and some of his own.many people hated that album though personally it's one of his best in my opinion....i think this new album could be similar because the old holiday songs could be seen as traditional folk songs....i hope he does frosty the snowman though i don't think anyone can top the great jimmy durante's version....we can think back to the jewish song writer irving berlin and his many great holiday tunes.i think a song writer and or musician should limit themselves ....one song though i can think of off hand where i think dylan has sold out so to speak was that damn forever young song.i can't stand that song.though i suppose it has great commercial potential.he does the tune twice on the album planet waves.the rest of that album was pretty good though.
Who gives a fuck? I mean really... Who cares if some icon wants to go make more money. Say I'm a rock star, a beer company wants me to endorse their product, am I a sellout and should I be looked down upon for doing a job for money?
eh... tis static... as in inconsequential. although, what do you expect? there's a beatles video game... zeppelin, the who, and hendrix have all been used to sell shit. doesn't mean it isn't primo music. don't let the static (commercialism) ruin things for you.
Well The Beatles don't own the rights to most of their songs, nor Hendrix since Hendrix has been dead a good 35 years
kinda what i meant by the commercialization of the material. didn't articulate that too well, though.
^^ haha i know, in my mass media class the other day we were analyzing the news paper and i found an article of someone who wrote 'we' when talking about themselves, i loled and wrote a paper about it
Ya know, I felt the same way when Bruce Springstien endorsed John Kerry; then Obama for President. Now,... Jerry Garcia, there is a guy who held himself, and his catolouge, above the fray of partisan politics. and came off better for it. But I mean,.......... Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Frosty The Snowman are hardly religous tracts.............
he's sold out. you just missed the boat. in fact, he's been sold out since the 60's, it's just that it was less tacky to be sold out then. Hell, the grateful dead were sold out then, but they had to sell out to do all those tours people followed them around on. it's not the fact that he has sold out, that's moot it's that he's a complete fucking whore at this point.
Best post here. Any artist that switches genres to try to get a bigger audience pisses me off. It's one thing to do it for fun, but when he started going more and more country every year his standard folk albums weren't getting enough attention, I just gave up on him.
hendrix's family just gave permission to GIBSON to put out 2 'hendrix' guitars and i am a big supporter of anyone that wants to endorse something for dough
Or maybe the fact Dylan has done a wide variety of music through his career and he wants to do it, also the fact he's pragmatic and knows his voice would not work on a standard folk album or something that sounds like Blood on the Tracks anymore Damn, I guess I should hate Zeppelin for making Zeppelin III, all that accoustic shit to get more fans even if it my favorite Zeppelin album. And Dylan too, for making that bluesy/country crap on Time out of Mind/Love and Theft despite them both being basically the best work he's done since Desire.
