I saw a Bob Dylan interview last night, then at one point he quotes "you can be in love and be wise at the sametime" I want to know if you think this is true!!!and why
NITS, As in "you can feel the passions and still have a fine intellect"...at one time it was considered an impossible feat. Tundrahopper4
My favorite Dylan line is " Don't follow leaders and watch the parking meters"-or "You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows"

can you explain what don't follow leaders and watch the parking meters means. i've heard that line compared to other stuff before so apparently it means something that i don't understand.
Boy is that a "Blast from the Past"! I remember partying with friends one afternoon in 1964, playing my guitar, smoking a doob, kicking it, watching this dude sitting on the floor with headphones on, rewinding and re-listening over-and-over-and-over to Dylan, trying to figure out "What does it mean, what does it mean". Think about it, who's doing the thinking When you're doing the following? I'll leave the Parking meters For one Sager than I.
It means don't follow leaders and watch the parking meters. It depends how you read it. If you read it as it's written you would wonder why you should watch parking meters. If you read it as dont follow leaders or watch parking meters, you see it as an extension of the first part. Don't be part of the establishment, blindly following someone regardless of their status, and have your person tied down to the pettiness of worrying about parking tickets and taking what the leaders say as gosple just because they are leaders. Our time here on earth is short. One should be able to enjoy the joy of just being, without the stress accumulated from following societies guidelines and more. Pointed threats they bluff with scorn Suicide remarks are torn From the fool's gold mouthpiece The hollow horn plays wasted words Proves to warn That he not busy bein' born Is busy dyin'. BOB DYLAN It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)"
ah. i've never thought of it as don't follow and don't watch the parking meters. that makes sense. i've always sat there trying to figure out why you watch parking meter and even when i thought of something, how that fit in with the previous line.
you misunderstood dylan, he said you cant be in love and wise at the same time, he was talking about him and joan baez.
