I just watched this film again at a friend's house, and I would still label it as one of my favorites. I thought I would create a thread on it, because I love it so much, not to mention that an image of it was brought up recently for a post by Matt (Pressed_Rat). If you've seen Blade Runner, what do you think of it? The most remarkable aspect of this film are its visuals. Every time I view the futuristic sprawl of Los Angeles circa 2019, I feel that I've been transported to this world - that I can feel it all around me. Most of the individual shots of the characters and events in this film are amazing too. Watching the film is no different from watching a work of art, which it is.
I dont mind it, but i dont think ive ever watched it without falling aasleep.....i got the video game for my PC though .. I like the name of the book it is based on...."Do androids dream of electric sheep" I think its called.
Blade Runner is one of my favorite movies. Well, the Director's Cut is. I can't take the other version. The voice-over kills me. Everything about the movie continues to blow my mind every time I see it. I don't think it's been surpassed yet. The visuals are fantastic. The music of Vangelis was perfect. I think the movie's perfect.
It is a very groundbreaking film for its time, even though it didn't get a whole lot of attention until years after its release. Now, it has sort of a cult-following. I really like this movie a lot - great plot, great cinematography. Even the score by Vangelis is good. It seems like the type of movie people either love or hate.
Yeah, I don't care as much for the original either. I mean, the camera work is still great, but Ford's narration ruins the whole mystique of the plot. True, it gives it the feel of an old detective film, but that's pretty much the only part of the narration that I like. I hated the original ending, too. But yeah, the director's cut is incredible. I should have said that was what I was referring to - which I was. One other aspect of this film that I love is its screenplay. There are so many great quotes from this film. Overall, it is incredibly well written. These are some of my favorite quotes: Roy Batty: "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe; attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion; I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate; all those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die." Rick Deckard: "You're reading a magazine...you come across a full-page nude photo of a girl." Rachel: "Is this testing whether I'm a replicant or a lesbian, Mr. Deckard?" Deckard: "Shakes? I get them too. I get 'em bad. It's part of the business." Rachel: "I'm not in the business...I am the business."
"Blade Runner" is an all around good movie, the only thing I didn't like about it was Harrison Ford in the lead role. It's based on the sci-fi classic "Do Androids dream of electric sheeps" with slight alterations. I enjoyed both versions and also the score by Vangelis who happens to be one of synthie pop pioneers of the eighties, among Tangerine Dream and Jean-Michel Jarre. You should check out some of his earlier works from the sixties with Aphrodite's Child, specifically the album "666". It's great experimental prog-rock, most of the following relases were horrible flower power kitsch, though. The movie is basically a film noir type set in a depressing and dark futuristic sci-fi world with the reoccuring philosophical question: "What makes us human?", I'm not sure but I think you won't see any daylight throughout the whole movie...except for the last scene in the original ending. It's the impressive visuals and the atmosphere what catches everyone's attention. The atmosphere was haunting. That's mostly due to the set design by Syd Mead (http://kipplezone.tripod.com/id1.html) who was inspired by one of my all time favorite comic/graphic novel artists Moebius. If you haven't heard of him yet...he's famous for the "John Difool" series. Moebius worked on the sets for "Tron", "Alien", "Wilow", "The Abyss" and "The Fith Element" (crappie movie btw), you'll instantly recognize his influence. http://images.google.com/images?client=opera&rls=en&q=%22moebius&sourceid=opera&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi http://www.ultrawet.net/10cent/scan/moebius/ltm/moebius-ltm1.htm
i liked the set design so much that i took a couple of screenshots a few years ago. i was wondering how it was filmed
What's odd to me is that no one picks up that deckard is the "bad" guy,not the replicants. They just want to live like the rest of their contemporaries. One of my favorites, along with THX-1138.
anyone who sided with Deckard didn't get the point of this film. i think parts of the set in the pictures above are drawn, how do you call this "technique" again? also, I thought Sean Young looked really good in this one...what the hell happened to her career?
Katie--I think it's called Matte.Duck--if someone was trying to kill me just because I wanted to live,I would definately call him a bad guy.I don't remember why the corp. gave them such short life spans.
I've watched this once because my dad owns it on vhs format and I love to watch old movies, especially this one because it was a great sci-fi movie and I'm a fan of those.
