Eeeww! Yuck! I hate it! I was volunteering at the Nature Center last week and one of the rangers found a Black Widow momma who had this big baby sack thing, so they put her in this plastic box to let all the people that came in see her. Then a bunch of kids came in on a field trip, and this boy picked up the box and shook the hell out of it and the sack came open and hundreds of the awful evil little bastards started flying all over the place. Luckily, I had made the ranger put like three layers of tape on it, so no one got out. Blech. I had dreams about it. It made me think of that urban legend where the girl gets the boil on her face and it pops in the bathtub and all the baby spiders come out....

Sorry about your plight. I always heard that randomly placing those horse apples in your house would keep spiders away. They're those big green weird looking things that fall off trees.... I don't know if anyone will know what I'm talking about. I'll try to find a picture or something.

Spiders also do not like mint.

My mom gave me this verminex thing to plug into the wall its supose to be chemical free and it gives off a noise that bugs dont like so they dont come around. I put it in his room after cleaning all his toys and vacuming everything. Hopefully they won't return. There are a lot of spiders round here lately

I have been finding black widows around my apartment daily lately. They've been near the doors and patio door.

Last night I saw the biggest one I have ever seen outside of my back door, which is the one that we use most often. I took off my teva sandal and tried to smash it. Just as I was knealing down to smash it a neighbor's cat jumped onto my back out of nowhere!

F#$%ing cat scared the hell out of me. Got the spider though.

A few days ago my friend's son was bit by something. The doctors think it was a black widow. His arm looks gruesome and he's taking powerful antibiotics.
    (((shudder)))

I was bit myself as a teenager and it was horrible.I can't even imagine how sick a small child would become,I know it can be fatal.Be careful and good luck being rid of them. It's hard to get rid of spiders (my dad owns a pest control company, not very eco-friendly but I do know stuff as a result). Spiders are not affected by residual chemical, meaning only direct contact will kill them.Which means hitting them with a magazine is just as effective as spraying, basically. Vacuuming is good, that's how we got rid of the widows after I was bitten. Just keep looking for them and removing them as they show up.How scary,I hope they will split and leave you alone!

Those things don't work. I've had 2 of em, and i finally got rid of them when i noticed that a spider had built a web that was partially attached to it. Apparently it didn't scare them too much.

My son was bitten by a brown recluse (sp?) twice about 2 years ago.....they don't hurt when they bite, but the skin around the bite starts to rot away. I was bathing him, and when i washed over one of the bites (this was before I knew what it was...it looked like a mosquito bite) and a chunk of flesh came out of it, along with lots of clumpy blood and pus. Great big gobs of it. The hole it left was the size of an eraser head and about as deep, too. Luckily we were able to treat it before it got too bad and it didn't scar him. I hate evil biting spiders and insects.

YOur supose to put them (verminex plugins) in an open place with nothing in front of it, they last about 2 years it says and place them all over the house moving them periodicly throughout the house like once a month because if you leave em in one spot too long bugs can get use to the sound waves and come back. Actualy I think it has been working.

Yeah we had a few huge blackwiddows a few weeks ago I was shuddering at even getting near the one I was faced with but I couldnt let it out of my sight till it was dead for fear it would get away in the house and " get me" as if it could...haha. I finaly got it. I think I have slight spider phobia...but only for ones that big, fast and ugly, and hoppy...I just didnt want to freak my son out by telling him his room was infested so he had to stay out.

I used to be pretty freaked out by spiders, bugs, and such. but then my uncle came to live with us. We watched a ton of animal shows together...it was really cool! Animal Planet and Disovery Chanel taught me a lot (and still do) and so did my uncle! So stuff like that doesn't freak me out very much anymore. We don't have Black Widows in Oregon (or so I'm told)...but aparently other places in the Northwest do!

I HATE spiders so much. Blessings for your strength to deal with them.

Two summers ago I was nursing Sage in the glider in her room and got up on a chair to get a book from a shelf, and looked at the ceiling and saw a mass of wasps on the ceiling. I freaked out, and went to the window to call Bear, who was on the deck to come kill them. I heard buzzing and looked over my head, in the window casement and an entire nest of the paper wasps was in there. I FREAKED OUT!!!! We put the kids into the farthest bedroom and Bear started swatting them. I did get poison at this point, a whole freakin nest of them, nestled IN MY BABY'S ROOM!!!! They were flying all over the house and Bear got stung several times, we doused them with Raid, and Bear removed the huge nest they had made in between the screen and the storm window. The baby (who was almost 3 at the time) slept in our room for a few days, because of the poison and the wasps. It took days before we stopped finding them all over the house. GOD they had been there for a while, right in my baby's room. IT WAS awful. I still get upset when I think of it.

You are a strong mama to deal with this. I hate spiders more than wasps!

Blessings for protecting your baby, despite your fear!!!!

Some wasps did that at our old appartment before I lived there brians mom lived there and they ate through her bedroom ceeling into her room. That was mason's room later. I had put duct tape over the hole in the ceeling where the wasps honeycombed there. It was creepy.
