Now, I don't particularly believe in 'messages from the other side', but my mother does, and she just called asking me about this. I have no idea, but said I would have a look round and see if anything comes up.

Her friend works in a care home, and one of the residents died early this morning, she went in later on with two others to check that the room was okay and to open the window. When they did, hundreds of black flies fell from the top as though they were dead, but when they landed began to fly around everywhere. Nowhere else in the home have there been flies, the rooms are cleaned daily and there were no flies there before.

The friend, and now my mother, are convinced that this is a message from the woman who died - saying what they don't know.

So, my mother would like to know if there is any meaning to black flies and dead people.

Some cultures believe black flies are similar in some respects to the presence of whippoorwills who possess the uncanny ability to sense when death is near, and attempt to steal your soul before it passes into the great beyond

Bugs and flies have an in-born frequency that is wired into their radar vibration. They are hard wired to respond when this frequency occurs. Some things that sound this vibration is odor, smoke, death, fear, and temperature. That is why they are drawn to some and not others.

I learned this back on the farm I grew up on. No one knew the secret my father had at keeping flies, lady buds, and hornets away from the milk house, the smoke house and barn. After dark one night I watched my father as he religiously looked at the temperature, and set about to smoke out the hoards of flies and hornets that had hibernated from the cold and then kill them. I asked him what he was doing.

His reply was fascinating. He agreed to tell me if I did not tell anyone. I agreed. He said his grandfather passed down this old wives tale that roughly translated said if you want your enemy gone use what they know against them. Its kind of like an addiction to the ego. They respond and you are no longer the victim. So he defined his enemy, "flies" and used cold, smoke, odor, fear, and death against them.

The flies in her room were in hibernation mode but still responded to the frequency in that room. Kind of like sleep walking. When the flies woke when they fell, they were confused and on the defensive.

As to the woman she hated flies, was afraid of dying alone, and had once watched the movie called birds that left her isolated inside her own fears. She subconsciously struck the right frequency for the flies to be drawn to her room as her body temperature dropped.

She had so many things she wanted to say and yet withdrew into her self as time went on. She did not know why she was here in the later years, and answers became only bigger questions.

Sometimes if the animals are spirit guides they will be near, but not usually in hoards, or clusters.

But there were no flies at all in the room the day before, it does seem strange that so many appeared on the day she died. My mother's friends is convinced that the woman sent the flies as some form of warning, that she was angry about something and will now 'haunt' the place.

I still kind of think that they were only flies..

Some flies hibernate, do you live somewhere that is getting cooler? If they were clustered there in the window sleeping, they would have been knocked down and woken up to fly around...

That's what I thought, and keep saying to my mother. They live for about a month, but never before has anyone seen it like that, or heard of them hibernating.

They are convinced it's a haunting thing, and I don't think much will make them think otherwise.

Yeah, my mum will love you!

But, then I'd probably send a plague of bats or cows, so it could be true.

From a website with an article that includes a description of a body's decomposition process:

    http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-228...24D3417295C30420B61651B617F137019731B7B1D6B39

"From the moment of death, flies are attracted to the corpse and begin to lay eggs around wounds and natural body openings (mouth, nose, eyes, anus, genitalia). These eggs hatch and move into the body, often within 24 hours."

Maybe the flies in question already laid their eggs and were taking a little nap...or getting ready to die themselves, having fulfilled their procreative responsibilities.

    Just a thought. ;)
