Okay so I have an issue, My parents came to me yesterday and said that I need to decide by thursday whether I want to get my head shaved or have their friend "Fix" my hair so it looks nice. (Their friend who claims to have had dreads for 8 months and used peanut butter and honey in them.) I've tried explaining to them that it's natural for dreadies to look like shit after only one month but they don't listen.. Any advice?

Well technically they could make you take them out on grounds of age. I think that you should maturely approach them and tell them that their friend with the honey nut dreads doesn't know shit and that if they let him mess with your hair it'll look worse. Don't be all like "I H8 u bitch" coz that'll reaffirm their need to control you more. I would get them to read aroud here particularly get them to read the parent FAQ on dreadlock truth. If they are determied to get them tidied up couldn't you just do your own maintenence for a year then do whatever you want with them.
I've already explained all of the facts and do a lot of maintenance already. They just look like shitty 1 month old dreads, there's not really much you can do about that
and if you do remove your dreads because of your parents. Just grow your hair normally and take care of it. So when the time does come you are ahead of the game!

Its silly how parents try to control their kid's freedom of expression >< Just say it isn't their decision, its your hair, you can do whatever the fuck you want with it xD
Yeah it is quite silly. And my dad has longer hair than I do, so one would assume he's okay with personal expression =P

I did think that after I'd posted . Besides the bashing there's plenty information about keeping them tidy though etc. I think his parents should sign up and talk to BCMAMA about the issue. I think she'd work her magic with her knowlege. Agreed
