I'm watching Gangland and there's this group on there called FSU. They don't do any of the typical gang shit(robbing, drugs, theft) they just go around and beat up "bad guys"(White Supremacists, Drug Dealers). This leads to my question, vigilante justice, yay or nay?

Neither, i think each action is different. I dont think things need to be outside the law to be wrong, i dont think things need to be inside the law to be right. It depends on each action and each intention.

That kinda what I was thinking. it all depends on circumstance for me, for the most part.

I can see the merit in the idea. At least they're activley doing something to change the world. I think western society trains its citizens to be apathetic and afraid to stand up. But i can't broadly support the idea of vigilante justice because as i said each action and intention needs to be judged individualy.

My darling knows of this strong grandmother who goes and punches out crack dealers. She doesn't lay off until they submit and say they've been in the wrong.

Now that's cool. She's one of my hero's. Anyone who lives in a scummbum neighborhood could use people like that.

These type of situations are confusing to me from a moral stand point because not all people who are in the wrong, are inherently bad people.

Yeah I reckon she's got some serious juju to pull that.

I think that she's a much nicer wake-up call then the ones I see who get the kind that leaves them walking home with no shoes, shirt and holdin their keys.

I know a couple of core kids, and they are very interesting beings. Rather dumb in some cases, especially the ones who feel like they need to fight all of the time. The way that they dominate and maintain their scene is kinda admirable.

Yet what they do is fairly stupid and surely not justified. They have no more right to be pillars of morality than the next guy. Their attacks on drug dealers, skinheads, and so on are simply brutal. I could understand if they attack them on their own turf, but there's nothing idealistic in it. They are not justified ideologically merely because the people that they attack are "bad guys"... but it's a war for territory, for their scene, and for a way of life... and they fight with fists.

I really really really really really can't see how FSU can be classified as a gang though. They really aren't near as violent as they must be depicted on TV.

"Have a group of friends and have a name for the group and you're pretty much labeled a gang." FSU member on being called a gang.

I always end up having an argument about this with my fiance when we're watching Dexter. How he takes justice in his own hands, and yeah, fair enough, he gets the bad guys off the streets so to speak, and far more efficiently than the police would taking the legal route.. But it doesn't make it right. And yet I still have so much sympathy for him.. Anyhow..

I really want to watch that episode of Gangland now.

Ahh i love Dexter, godamn i feel sorry for Detective Dokes. Thing about Dexter is though is he isnt pretending he is doing it to save the world, he is doing to for blood lust. The code is merely a mechanism to protect himself and allow him to facilitate his need in a way he can live with.
