    Hi there,

I've tried to look, but start to become a tiny bit annoyed by now, so maybe you guys could help.

I'd love to put some beads into my dreadies, the only problem is that I cannot find any beads with holes big enough - all the ones I've seen, both in 'real life' and online are super small. Do you know about any particular websites, preferably from the UK (or with free/cheap shipping worldwide) which sell beads with bigger diameter holes? I'm mostly interested in bone and wood beads.

Thanks a lot and stay knotty :]

Make your own...throw 'em in the oven and they're done once you shape them. Not to mention you can make them to match outfits....

Oi I only read the first sentence. Uhm...if you're really attached to bone and wood beads....search for people who make beads and/or figurines in the UK and ask them to custom make you something?

Have a look on ebay bud, I just did a quick search and there seems to be plenty around on there. Or that site etsy I think it is? Never been on it but I'm sure there would have to be something.

You could always try make your own too, that's fun and means you can get them to the exact size you need.

That's actually what's missing from my post. It's 6 here and I haven't slept yet...

Etsy has this thing that's called Alchemy. It lets you post requests for items with a max price and then let's people bid on it. You basically get to pick your own price.

I know they're shitty hq beads, but these are pretty cheap, although I don't know what size you're talking about. I had some beads that were too small and just made the hole bigger so they fitted.

    http://www.dreadworx.co.uk/dreadlockbrands/dreadheadhq/pages/dreadheadhqwoodenbeads.html

The advantage there is that it's UK based so you won't get stitched up on postage.

But maybe it goes against goes against your principles buying hq stiuff :D

Otherwise, aren't there any hippie shops in Derby that you could buy some from?

I *think* you could use a reamer on wood beads but don't quote me on that.

OP, go with the ones from Dreadworx. They are designed for dreads, so the hole will be big enough. The ones on the ebay site you posted are for beading, not dreads. The holes in those ones will be about 2mm wide. Dread beads will be 7-10mm wide. Go with dreadworx. Or alternatively, I make glass beads, and Smelly D http://dreadyderry.folksy.com/ makes fimo beads. If you are set on wood or bone, go with dreadworx.

Edit: Quick search on google for "dread beads"

    Cheers again!

Do you mind sharing how you made those first wooden beads? I imagine I could sit with a leatherman and whittle away at some wood, but do you then throw it in the oven or anything to keep it? Coat it in anything? Does it have to be a special kind of hard wood? Or can I hack a piece off any tree outside and carve it up?
    Thanks!
