Batteries Not Included

I was recently considering the massive range of various type of vibrators available on the market, and nearly all of these are based on the same simple principle of an electro magnet attracting a spring, which in turn breaks the circuit, causing it to spring back & once again complete the circuit, etc.

However, although the technology may be simple, and the demand high, I was curious as to its history, so I set about doing some Googling & found this interesting article:

Which reveals that it seems to have originally been invented as long ago as the 1870s (although the original inventor is in some doubt) for use in psychiatric hospitals, to relieve hysteria.

It didn't appear to come onto the open market as a sex toy until nearly 50 years later, in 1918, when Sears & Roebuck started to advertise them as "Such Delightful Companions".

There may be a wider range of designs available these days, but nothing's really changed has it.

...And the FleshLight, in my opinion, is still the best toy for men - and that doesn't need batteries (although a standard vibrator may be inserted in the tail end for a bit of additional stimulation, if desired).

 

yep and FGM was also practiced in the US to relieve "hysteria". it wasnt outlawed until 1995
