So I've been noticing these Hindu guys in my city going barefooted for the last few days. First, I saw someone driving a motorcycle without shoes and I thought whoa that might be a little dangerous when you're stopped at a light, etc. But I laughed too But!! Now I'm seeing loads of them and they're all wearing black! I asked someone and they said they'll go barefooted and black clothed for 40 days as a cleansing ritual or something. Then they'll go to a certain temple. Just thought it might interest you folks.
Bare feet seem to be frequently connected to religion, whether in "print" (the Bible, etc.) or in practice. I'm under the impression that going barefoot is openly questioned less because of the religious connection in those cases. I just wish that the lifestyle connection was questioned less too.
