You know, a group gets together for a good cause or to remember someone and releases hundreds or thousands of balloons into the air. How in the world is this still allowed?! Do people not realize that they won't just dissolve, but they burst and fall back down to the earth? I have had a problem with this for a long time. Just yesterday I saw TWO local news stories where people did this.
yeah and animals mistaken the balloons for food .......it seams okay to let trash float up and away....toss it aside and you get a ticket...
Yeah, I always thought balloon releases were so stupid. I've been to a few weddings that they did that. I never participated because, like Joe said, they don't just disinegrate. I don't think people think about things sometimes, they just do it.
I argued against this the other day. It had been suggested we have a balloon race at school in a school fair but i managed to persuade them not to. I can't believe they still allow this either.
I used to do that as a kid. Then I grew up, got smart and stopped. Sometimes it seems to me that most people are like little children when it comes to things like this. Consequences? What are those??? To the original poster: Write a letter to your local newspapers (or whatever paper is commonly read where you are) explaining why it's such a bad idea. Maybe some people will get some understanding.
I went to quite a few events in the last couple years where they had balloon releases. I didn't know in advance, so I held on to the balloon they gave me and convinced as many people as I could not to let them go. It wasn't many in the long run, but maybe the people I convinced will have something to do with future decisions.
I second that Moon, well done arrows. Has anyone noticed how many of these charity events seem to be so wasteful or environmentally hazardous. And whenever I voice my concern to the organiser the response I get is that it's for 'the spirit of the event'.
