Hey guys, sorry if this has been posted before, but it's something that really concerns me... I've had dreads for 4 years now, and all the while people have always liked to tell me about how in a few years, the dreads will cause me to go bald. Has anyone ever heard of this being true? Has it happened to anyone? I mean, I plan to cut my dreads someday, but I don't want to have to do it early, for fear of going bald. If anyone could give me some help with this, I'd be so grateful. Thanks!
That's what I always figured, but you know. You hear shit, and you worry. Especially when you're a guy, and so many guys go bald, nowadays. But, according to my mum, baldness doesn't seem to be too present in our family genes, so I'm hopeful!
I am unsure of the science of this, but the only reason I could *imagine* dreads making you prone to baldness is that perhaps the hair shaft weakens with age and dreads weigh a lot? That's my guess as to why they would cause baldness, if infact they do. *shrugs*
the only other reason i could see you going bald is if you wear your dreads up in pigtails all the time and the part may look as if it's a bald spot.
