I'm not as concerned with how it will look, just if backcombing at this length will make it grow slower?

I'm not sure if it would that's why I asked. Do you think I should wait till there's more length?

if you backcomb at that length they will be short. a few will stick out. if you can handle it, go for it.

They'd look better if you went neglect because neglect dreads don't shrink.

I was thinking of kind of doing both, just backcombing it once and letting it do it's own thing after that. I've heard sleeping with a wool sweater over your pillow helps them knot up a little more is that true?

If you backcomb they'll fall out the next day. Just wait.

    lol.

Yeah, i tried wearing a beanie, then hood, wile neglecting at college.

You'll have to come to the realization that people will see your head, your hairstyle will be very unplesant if you can't just walk around. Eventually you will either gain the confidence to walk around, never leave home again, or remove your locks. again.

So really, please, stop making a thread every two minutes about how you want locks but don't want to FORM locks. The answers are the same each time. Hair WILL shrink, sooner better, neglect=less shrink, can start sooner.

YES, if you backcomb, things will look short. and stay really short for a really long time as they shrink.

You're so oblivious. I never said I didn't want to form locks, or go through the process. I don't care if my hair is messy, be reasonable here. Just because I'm going to wear a beanie or tam at school doesn't mean it's for some vain reason. It's because I don't want to be distracted from my work by people with everyone's opinions. And as for my threads, I realise I made a thread about this already, but I definetly don't post a thread every two minutes and if you have a problem with it, try not clicking them. I know people will eventually see my head...hell a gust of wind could blow off my hat and then it would be all eyes on my hair. I really don't think people care that much.

Also an update, I did backcomb them. Even if it does look like a rats nest until I grow a little more length I can deal. Time will tell.

Roor is a child. Let him roll off your back.

Neglect don't visibly shrink but you still have shrink. It's just smaller and less noticeable.

    Good luck!

It's weird because I feel like my hair actually looks longer after backcombing. I think I missed some spots for sure some just will not because its so straight and short in the back but, I'm not really concerned with it. It will do it's own thing over time anyways. :eggnog:

    LOL.

Yeah, I remember back in the day, in high school, where the dress code always made sure to tell you that you couldn't dress how you wanted so that other people could learn. But now I'm in college, and the people who don't have the brains to learn if the person next to them has the wrong hair drop out, as it should be.

You got like 2 weeks not into, but TOWARDS having locks, and removed them. I seem to recall you had issues with the length. That's a part of forming locks, and happens when it happens. And now you're asking about forming locks. Well the worst that can happen is NOTHING, the best is locks, so you're asking if the backcombs will hold right off the bat out of vanity, yes.

I'll be around, if you need any more of my help in this thread.

LOL no it's not out of vanity I just want to know how long it will take for shorter hair. My hair wasn't short the first time I did it. If you bothered to read the thread you would notice that I made afew comments on how it doesn't matter and it will do it's thing on it's own anyways even if my short straight hair is stubborn...it eventually will fold. Not what i'm about at all man...

I noticed a lot of those comments you made, and a lot of very conflicting comments.

    Like just now.

"LOL no it's not out of vanity I just want to know how long it will take for shorter hair." is NOT any SHADE of the truth, that is NOT a reason for wearing a hat, sorry....

I mean the backcombing could very well fall out. A LOT of folks have had that happened. If you're set on rolling with the punches then it doesn't matter either way and you'll adjust and end up with hair you love.

I think it's less vain to not want to bring attention to yourself. That's just me. I don't know if my hair will actually dread at this length. It's very soft and straight. I might wait. Because when I had longer hair and dreaded it I didn't care. I should be saying backcombed. But it was going alot smoother when it was longer. Ill wait till it's shoulder length.

Introversion is caused by vanity. Vanity doesn't mean you think you look great, it means you're afraid you don't, which I would also judge to describe you from your many other postings that I have observed.

I really wasen't attacking you like that, just saying have some patience, and chill out. i know you like locks, i know you want locks, and i also know you're doing some struggling with image. Please, for your sake and my keyboards sake, stick with it this time, it's good to prove to yourself that you don't give a FUCK what anyone thinks about your mono-dread-hobo-lookin-thing on your head. It will help your self confidence in general, and self control, in refraining from touching it too much. But if you don't commit yourself, it will never happen.
