Any Helpful folks out there who have been to eastwind or know the ozarks well? I am leaving in 9 days and while I know the main roads to take I am a little unsure of what to be looking for or what to expect. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. much love and peace to all.

I am going to East Wind too, I assume both for their October visitor period? I live in Missouri, though 3 and a half hours north. Where are you coming from? The temp should be in the lower 90s/mid 80s, not losing much temp at night though it will be getting cooler obviously as the month progresses. There are a lot of bluff/rock formations that were carved when the glacier that gave northern Missouri its flatness melted, thus a lot of bodies of water too. East Wind is extremely south and central and while I've never been in that specific area, I have been directly east and directly west and its extremely beautiful. I have also heard from many communards at Twin Oaks (its sister community in VA) that EW land itself is breathtaking.

I am very excited. Have you visited in other communities? Are you considering membership? Glad we got to meet.

Yes, I am going for october visitation and most likely considering membership. This is the first community I have ever been to and I'm very excited about the landscape. I love the outdoors and the idea of being in the mountains, surrounded by lakes and other bodies of water, sounds like heaven to me. I am coming from dyer, IN (right outside of Chicago) It is a 9 hr. drive but it will give me a chance to see some land. My ideal gameplan is to try to get there by at least noon on Sunday the 30th. When are you getting there? Thanks again for all the useful information. Look forward to hopefully meeting you.
    Much love,
    Sarah

East Wind definitely sounds like a good place for you then. I love the outdoors too and what from I gather, the members share the same feelings because they talk a lot about going on canoe trips and camping trips and such. They say that you have the option to camp while visiting and I have a lot of good gear so I'm definitely considering it. Just hoping the weather holds out. Thats one thing about MO, though, the weather changes on a dime so I would still be prepared with few heavier clothes.

They're also really into music at EW, which was another big draw for me. All in all, I'm incredibly excited. Twin Oaks, while having lots of appeal and many cool people, just wasn't the right place for me personally so I'm hoping this is a better fit. Not quite sure when I'll get there yet, probably Sun. afternoon. Not really a morning person. Just one more week!

As if I wasn't excited enough; music is very important to me so I am glad it is a significant part of everyday life. I thought of camping as well but I figured I would leave it up to the weather. I have the feeling that the weather is going to be beautiful. Thanks again for all the help and by all means, if ever you feel the need to rant and vent out your excitement for EW then I am your girl. :)

How regimented is East Wind? I've heard things like, if you get pregnant, you have to get an abortion or move out.

i got a great tour of the ozarks this year and met hippies through-out , some communal some only so in spirit . dis and dat . all were aquainted with east wind and their stories were diverse in the pos/neg balance and quite weird enough to be interesting . that's life in the backwoods ... and the heavenly ideal cycles in and out . sometimes it moves to town for awhile . stay loose if one really desires it . there's no one place can hold it . so get lucky !
