I am constantly amazed as I watch the world flow around me.

I always thought that arranged marriages were real uncommon. But I see it is very common in certain parts of the world.

What do you think about arranged marriages?

I am really not sure what to think about it.

It just floored me that it is so common in different cultures.

They frighten me ,TBH.Far too many young girls are forced into them, into abusive relationship in them- thats terrible.
On the other hand, I know there are people it works for, people who veiw their marriage as a business and are willing to be part of a a team more than a relationship- and ignore any differences to make a household run... I am far tooo stubborn for such a thing.

i dont have any real isse with it at all.

i wouldnt arrange a marriage for my children, as it is not a custom of my culture and it would feel too out of place to me. but in a lot of ways i almost think it makes more sense.

I don't really know. I mean, it saves you from having to fall in love, it could work out, if you want to. On the other hand, it might not work, you might fall in love somewhere down the line, you might not want to...

I mean, it's a culture thing so who am I to say it's wrong? I wouldn't do it, but that doesn't mean it's wrong or bad.

I don't approve of them. Namely, because I think such an important decision like giving your legal rights to another person to share with you is a decision that should be made by the individual. I'm a romantic. I believe that love isn't a bargain you can fabricate and arrange. It grows naturally and nobody can bind it.

like it or not, marriages have never been strictly about love.

a very large percentage of marriages beginning in "love" end up in divorce. some others in verbal/physical/sexual abuse.

love, like it or not, is elusive and not always so eternal as many people want it to be.

on the other hand, many arranged marriages begin instead with respect for each other, and it is considered very common to "learn to love" each other.

arranged marriages do not promote abuse or other similar issues any more than marriages of will, and also have a significantly lower divorce rate.

i'm not saying they're better, i just think in the end it's all somewhat the same.

i wouldnt want to be in an arranged marriage myself, and would not wish to arrange one for children i may someday have, but i just dont see anything really wrong with them. just foreign to me, thats all.

marriage is too important of a decision - woman should not be involved at all in the decision making process

I disagree. In the end, it's not all the same.

It's about personal choice to make your own mistakes, instead of being a puppet to your family who can orchestrate a desired result - one that by chance might be love.

I don't believe that money or security is the purpose of marriage. To me, marriage is the house of love, the temple where people go to lean on and learn from by their own free will. If you go into a marriage without any love, then isn't it just as broken as if you went into a marriage in love and left in divorce? I suppose in that respect it's of some similar value, but one is a choice and the other is not.

I don't like marriage at all. I doubt I'll ever get married and I could see this relationship going somewhere, so it's not that. It's just too messy arranged or not...

The "longevity is everything" crowd should be giving arranged marriages rave reviews; because they typically last longer than love marriages.

eh, they make you say that...

i dislike arranged marriages, just because i'm all for personal freedom and being told who you will spend your life with is very much opposed to that ideal.

Dude, think about it: a beautiful 17 year old servant, with flowing straight black hair and brown skin, who keeps her mouth shut and lays there when you want sex. [IMG]

    Can't beat that-
