A Colorado HS student was curious about how far Army recuiters would go to get him into the army, and discovered that they would help him fake a HS diploma or cheat on a drug test in order to qualify for enlistment. Story at:

I think they are getting desperate. I know a guy who got discharged after basic training for the Air force because of some medical problem he had as a kid or whatever. The Army picked him right up...just told him never to bring up the medical thing.

    *shakes head*

Interesting on the high school diploma. The drug test things nothing new really though. Recruiters routinely hook up new recruits with various methods of passing tests, sometimes even portable clean urine. Hell the recruiters around here used to throw parties replete with drugs and hookers just before the cut-off date for passing a test. That's no lie. But props to that kid for being sly, good on him.

I've met some of the ROTC guys here on campus. Dumber than a bag of hammers, almost to a man.

Well you have to be rather stupid to join the military these days.

I find that line to be one of the most memorable parts of the movie, for some odd reason.

As Ive said many times in the past, what can one expect of an Institution which has become nothing more than a brute squad to advance corporate hegemonic interests around the globe rather than merely defend our own soil, ON our own soil?

Moreover, when one digs in and scrutinises the repeated history of propaganda and lies officially generated by the Pentagon to keep the public entirely misinformed so that its expansionistic agenda may be executed with impunity, the PR facade of "honor", "integrity", etc. crumbles to reveal the truth of institutionalised criminality and corruption betraying every precept our founding fathers fought to establish and bequeath to the nation.

Sooner or later the present course our nation has allowed itself to be set upon will culiminate in such overt tyranny and disregard for the general welfare of "the people" (whom our political establishment regards as nothing more than pliable sheep at the best of times and expendable chattel in times such as these), that the majority will have to rise up and dismantle these mechanisms of elite concentration of power or else foresake the myth of our nation being any shining example of liberty and justice.

I sent this story to the CNN News Tips email - I think this is a story that could pick up national attention. We'll see if maybe CNN will pay it some attention.

If anyone else wants to send CNN a news tip, the link is here:

Don't expect to see it on CNN (aka American propaganda international). Such stories would be antithetical to their official mouthpiece status and drive away advertising dollars.

could be more likely there, but also given the context, it wouldn't be taken as seriously by the public at large. Good luck getting national exposure though.

imagine the recruiters of the canadian army , they went to my school 3 months ago, if you have the equivalent of 9 th year and you don't have judiciary decisions pending on you since 16 months you can join . You gotta be 16 though ...

At least the army is doing something about it now that they know though. Honestly, it seems ALL recruiters do things differently. Some lie, some tell you the truth straight out, good and bad, some do everything they can to help you out if you have a bad past, some don't care and will turn you away regardless of their quotas, if you're not up to par for the army...in their opinion. I haven't heard of TOO many stories like this, but I don't doubt it happens all the time. I have heard NUMEROUS stories of recruiters conveniently leaving out information that could possibly turn a person away from the military. Luckily hubby's recruiter was happy to answer any and all questions hubby and I had...even about the not so tempting subjects relating to the air force.

Inagoda, you're still batting 1000 when it comes to ridiculously stupid remarks. The problem with the military is much more systemic than the other examples you cited because the corruption goes all the way to the top.
