I was just wondering how many of you think that we are at a point of no return, or too many people to change. Im really not sure, but the way everyone is talking about it, it seems like no matter what we do, its gonna kill us anyway. I was just wondering if the future seems that bleak to everyone else/

I believe that if everyone started right now,
and took care of the earth, we/it would be OK.

On the other hand, people don't change that easily.
I think we've pretty much worn out our welcome on the planet.

See, why is everyone so pessimistic? If we are all gonna die, why do we have to go out with so much gloom and doom? Yes, humans have been abusing this planet for millons of years, but thats not OWR fault. All we can do is change our daily lifestyles and hope that works, but im not gonna go out believing we were all defeted long ago. I am doing my part, and I know more and more hybrid cars are being made, and its coming to alot of other peoples attention. All i can do is go on that and be optimistic. Maybe some of you should do the same. I am not gonna come on here anymore since All the posts seem to be depressing. I know enough about what is going on to do all I can do to help, So I am shutting my eyes and ears to all "Dooms day is coming" Theroys. If we die, we die...but I refuse to know when that time is. Peace to all, I am not trying to offend anyone, just simply stating an opinon. Enjoy this day.

We are going to die. That's the human condition. Are we going to die from Global Warming...I doubt it.

Those that think we can live forever are the ones that buy into the manipulation of the public by people that seek to profit through fear mongering.

When there is life there is hope.
I believe that ur mission on earth is to make it a paradise.
We have to keep fighting for this, all of us.

We're all going to die, but the question is when and how. I'd prefer that we all get to live until we're old and die peacefully. That doesn't happen for many folks, and it will happen for far fewer if we don't seriously reduce climate forcings in the next 10 years. When northeast Africa failed to get their normal monsoons in the 80's due to climatic anomalies, 50 million died of famine. It was one of the most horrific events in modern history. There is a real possibility that monsoons would fail in Asia as well due to increased global warming. There you're not talking about a famine killing 50 million, you're talking about a famine killing many hundreds of millions. If that happened, if the monsoons failed (and thus the crops failed) there would be nothing the rest of the world would even be able to do to stop it.

We're not beyond a point of no return per se, but we are getting very close to some real tipping points. We have a decade to act. If we don't act in the next decade, then it likely will be to late and we will have set things in motion (runaway warming) that we cannot stop.

there's is always hope. As long as there are still people alive with open minds and wisdom, there will always be hope.
Always with death, comes hope and rebirth.

I have to agree. Apparently we are all going to die because the world will end tomorrow just because someone didn't recycle a few tin cans of cola and supermarkets provided plastic shopping bags for customer convienience. So that we didn't have to use cheap paper that would tear apart once you walked a few hundred yards. If we don't use plastic, more trees are cut down.

If we use plastic, perhaps we can continue to see our trees that ultimately are vital for any life form on earth to live. They give out oxygen. Without it, we are dead. Thirty years ago, it was global cooling. As soon as we get a heatwave, the catastophists have their field day and the government create green taxes. An example being in London, where it costs 8 pounds to take your car into London. And if your car or lorry is over five years old, "Excuse me sir, but I will be needing 200 pounds from you". Global warming is a natural occurance. Our climate goes up and down. A simple computer seemed to predict Earth's plight? My arse! If a computer could do that, then why don't we know more about our Universe? The answer is this: Government want money.

Not for environmental reasons, but as a means to wipe clean, the damage government have done to society. Global warming is just a front, an excuse a mask that seemingly makes our government saviours of the world. But I say, and I am sure many agree, enough with the taxes, the lies and the nonsense about how the world is going to end.

the thing is, I hardly believe that Global Warming is a conspiracy... maybe it has been a little exagerated, but in all it has brought out a lot of positivity in people. People are actually paying attention to their enviroment. I think people are just becoming more aware of the planet, and perhaps are seeing this heat wave as more than it is. Still, at least people are paying attention.

It was global cooling thirty years ago. I wonder in another thirty years it will be Global wobbles?

I think we should clean our act by reducing the relentless dependency on fossil fuels. It is nicer to live if the local atmosphere is relatively clean from pollution. I watched this documentary on channel four. It exposed the truth behind the myth. Infact, we all should know that when you leave ice cubes out on the kitchen worktop, it starts to thaw out. Due to natural climate change, the ice caps have begun to thaw. Same principle, because the climate got warmer since the ice age, the ice has begun to thaw. Thus starting a whole new climate, making the seas warmer. But then the whole process might become colder. But while governments tax everyone to pieces and then throw them in jail for non payment. I can only wonder whether we will ever see a day when this End of the world scare mongering will end. I have no doubt that the world will be around for a while yet. I know some cults in USA who predict the worlds end. I would have thought that their failure to give accurate predictions would have stumped the governments mission. But obviously not. I reckon it is a bit like the 2008 equivalent of an alchamists quest to find the philosophers stone. instead he makes some Green.

Well, no, not jut yet. There's still hope for hydrogen fuel cells, and how far off are we to getting this, is the question. Then there talking of liquified coal, which is not suppose to be cool either, but there are alternative energies out there, and not nuclear power, because of the radioactive waste, either. Good going Al Gore, but is the D>O> going to stop with the oil, and other outdated technologies. e have to be persevere, and the activists are, cut back on pollution. PEACE & BLESSINGS! LOVE YA ALL!

What you are missing is that ice melting releases large amounts of fresh water into the ocean conveyor system, which relies on cold dense salty water to sink once it reaches the poles and travel back to the equator, where it is warmed and rises. The warm waters head back for the poles, continuing the cycle.

When the fresh water is dumped into the ocean, the water at the poles is no longer densely salty, as fresh water is less dense than salt water, so it no longer sinks. The ocean conveyor belt is broken down, which can lead to glaciation. This is how a warming trend can lead to a much cooler climate.

This is the theory at least.

    Peace and love

Money makes the world go 'round. As long as that's true then our leaders will be willing to sell out the future of mankind for a short term profit regardless of public opinion. So if we continue on the path we're on today, life as we know it will come to an end. I'm not saying that all humans will be extinct, but most people will die and those that are left will live in third world conditions. It's not that humans won't be able to survive, it's just that our industrial economy can't be sustained.

No not all of us will die. As I looked at the rate the ice is melting I think we will melt it all by 2012.
So the melting of the ice will stop the ocean convaire
and will cool down the ocean followed by our atmosphere which will cause an ice age.
The first thing we will see is storms, hurricanes and more of natures destruction before the Earth freezes.
So I sugest get ready now...

Seems as if someone has been watching 'the Day after tomorrow'.
There's no predicting what will happen next. Scientists can try, but who knows what will truly happen.
