Simulation, algorithm development, and online and core software for a multi-billion dollar international high energy physics collaboration of over 2000 scientists and engineers at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva, Switzerland.

• Primary developer of detailed electronics and response simulations for three of the experiment’s six major detector subsystems: cathode strip chamber (CSC) tracking, and crystal and sampling calorimetric. Wrote, tested, refectory, and maintained XX lines of production code.

• Wrote distributed online data acquisition, configuration, and binary data packing/unpacking framework, which will be used to control 421,000 readout channels

• Created Kalman Filter-based track reconstruction algorithms to detect photon conversion.

• Responsible for the hierarchical parameter configuration language used by all simulation and reconstruction jobs. Uses lex/yacc parsing and translates to and from python. Added many features for modularity and browsing. Current release has 67,000 user lines in this language.

• Provided the experiment’s first large scale simulated dataset, processing over a terbyte particle collisions on a 256-node HP supercomputer.

• Prototyped object-oriented database (OODB) solutions for data storage.

• Member of the experiment’s Software & Computing Advisory Board.

• Developed innovative analysis techniques for the 1995 top quark discovery at Fermilab, in Batavia, IL. Participated in competitive analysis on shared data.

when i did interviews, they usually consisted of asking if they were available on friday and saturday nights, and telling them when to come in for training.

 

If I was going to work at the Dairy Queen I would. I mean really, I don't need an IQ or a personality for the job but you want a list of my key strengths?

Ummm... I have flexible wrists that were MADE to work a spatula.

i suspect you're the only one here who has had a real job...

every job i've had, even the one semi-real one, started out at entry level. i'm awful at interviews so i just start low and let them see that i'm an infinitely better worker than 99% of the employees that pass through. then i get promoted without having to deal with the whole silly interview process.

 

I did, it was awful and I got all clammy and nervous and I also had to take some type of math and typing test thing...But I aced it and 9 years and three promotions later I am still there.. But they are eliminating people's positions so I don't know how much longer I will be there.....
