I've been trying to cut down on my coffee consumption lately. And I have been looking for some quick and easy coffee substitutes. I already found golden or tumeric milk, with just turmeric powder added to hot milk basically. (The problem with turmeric powder is that it leaves this sludge at the bottom of the pot and my mug that I have to drink around. There's also something called switchel that has turmeric, cinnamon and a couple of other things in water, with apple cider vinegar. That tastes good.) I know they say chicory is a cheap caffeine-free substitute for coffee. But unless I could get it cheap somewhere, it is rather expensive where I've seen it. (I also like brewing things sometimes, like chicory in a perculator for maximum taste.) I also heard that carrots made into a broth in water can be a coffee substitute, which sounds interesting. Then they say you can add cream and sugar like ordinary coffee, which I never thought of. I know I've always enjoyed Postum brand roasted grain coffee substitute. But whenever I find it now it seems to be very expensive for some reason. The best thing would be something I already have in my kitchen like a spice. Any suggestions?
